"I saw my sister. Her dark black hair, similar to my own, was waving in the air as she stood on the ledge. Her long, slender arms were held out, as if she were about to fly away. Her entire frame was slightly bent forward, her blue eyes peering over the ledge. She was small to the eye, standing up on the ledge. I followed her gaze down, a pit of jagged rocks, the tide washing over them. I wish the tide would have lapped away the water, but alas, they remained, deathly as ever. The fall would be enough to kill her.
"Eliana!" We all screamed, but she ignored us. She kept her eyes on the pit of rocks. Only once she looked at us. Only once, and I wish I wouldn't have taken her eyes locked into mine, for granted."
Evelyn Cross has been haunted by her sister's death for the past year. She stays low for the rest of 10th grade. But when their next year teachers assign them with a project to review one spot in their state and write an excessively long essay over the summer, Evelyn is forced to wander out of her comfort zone. Even more so when she's partnered with Eli O'Neil, the depressed kid of their school. But as their adventure continues forth, the two begin to realize they have a lot more in common than at first sight.
