In the world we live in today, speaking seems to be the only way one knows how to communicate; as if it is the only way to communicate- or is it? There are many unique children, scattered around the world, who are labelled as, "special needs", or "autistic", or ADHD. And these labels usually come with a negative stigma attached to them. But, what if- what if these children were just... different? What if these children are here, to show us a different, and more unique way of living. What if they are not in need, of "special attention"? What if they are just: special. This fictional (or is it?) short story , is geared to change your perception about these children, and your view point on communication, and the way we as human beings- speak.

There is beauty in strength and courage. Like sunlight through the clouds, or laughter through tears, the hope that remains even through the most difficult challenges can light the darkest day. Can't Bring Me Down is a collection of inspirations and reminders that no matter the struggle, no matter the differences that may seem to separate us, strength can be found in the love that surrounds us. Take the chance to look with your heart, and you'll see that we're not that different after all, especially in our ability, our need, to love and be loved. Loving someone makes you brave. And brave will always be beautiful. This first edition of this book, a collection of poetry and short stories inspired by my friendship with Brianna, an amazing little girl who happens to have Down syndrome, was a finalist for the Montaigne Medal for Most Thought Provoking Book of 2016 in the Eric Hoffer Book Awards. I've created a second edition, focused only on poetry, and including more works inspired by the many friendships that have grown from my relationship with Bri and the other athletes and families involved with I Run 4, a group that pairs runners and people with special needs to motivate and encourage one another across the miles and milestones. For the past six and a half years, Brianna and I have been a great support system for one another and for others who have followed our adventures through social media. Hopefully these poems, and the short stories in Wherever I Find Myself, will make you part of that connection, too. To keep up with our journey, follow me on Instagram: @tckeenauthor.
