Rowan smirked, not even trying to contain her delight. "At least we know that part of your heritage is fully functional," she drawled, slowly circling him. "Tell me, Kaine. How'd you do it? How did you trick the bond?" Kaine inhaled sharply, shaking his head. Quick, jerky movements. "T-that's not p-p-possible, Ro-" "Don't lie to me, Kaine. We both know it is. "I d-don't k-" A hand slid around Rowan's waist and pulled her away from the man. She softened into his embrace, but her eyes stayed fixed on the man kneeling before her. "He didn't hurt us.
