What if the two could help each other change their name. Race and Spot decide to fake date to get some attention in school. However things go south...

Set in 1969, the newsies have all grown into young adults and are leading their own lives. As he is called back to Manhattan, Specs uncovers old memories and scars from his past. And as the turmoil of the year unfolds, it changes everything for the whole crew, forever. 

Shawn came back from the field at sundown. Every muscle in my body visibly relaxed at seeing him safe and sound. "WHAT WERE YOU DOING?" I screamed at his silhouette while he ran towards me. He didn't answered and kept running as fast as his small feet could carry him. When he was finally close enough for the moon to shed some light on him, I realised he was holding a Sunflower in his hand and a dirty piece of wood . He got down on one knee and held both objects in front me. "This," he began, holding up the piece of wood, " because you run as fast as a car" "That's supposed to be a car?" I mocked. "Shut up and take the gift" he frowned and threw the piece of wood at me. " okay, thank you" I said with a laugh. Leaning down, I grabbed the "car" and a little clump of dirt. When I got back up, the hand with the sunflower was extended to me. " I know it's your favourite" he mumbled angrily. "It is" I answered, taking his hand and the sunflower in mine. ... So, eh... I've never written a Soulmate AU before, so prepare for messy bullcrap. The way this soulmate AU works is that any mark that shows up on one's body also shows up on their soulmate's. It's basically the Broadway Newsies, except it's told from Race's POV. Also some Sprace (Spot x Race) stuff.

Eight kids run away to New York to pursue their dreams. Amid unstable living and work conditions, Jack Kelly falls head over heels for miss Katherine Plumber. But he just can't put his feelings into words. Katherine is trying to pursue her dreams, but it proves more difficult than she imagines. The year is 2005, the month is September, and the newsboys are poor. Poor David Jacobs joins them, only to be chucked right into the drama when the price of the papes is raised. Meanwhile there's all sorts of drama within the group of newsies, and so is there at the newspaper The Sun. There's a lot happening in 2005's Lower Manhattan...
