I walk behind watching my classmates walk down the streets looking at the different shops. As we pass this one shop I notice it's a music store. I take a minute to look in the window and look around. I look back and see my class is seated at a coffee shop at the outside tables. I walk over and head to talk to my teacher. "Hey Mr. Kaup? Would you mind if I went into that music shop for a few minutes?" He's my favorite teacher. He looks at me and smiles. "Oh of course sweetie. I'll send someone for you when we're ready to move on." He pats my shoulder. I smile and walk over to the shop and open the door and walk in. The little bell above the door ringing. I look and see a red headed boy behind the counter and he smiles at me. "Hello. Welcome to Kits Music Shop." I smile back and start walking around. As I walk around I happen to find a few CDs that interest me. As I walk up to the front counter I bump into someone causing the CDs to fall to the floor.

Spring Break of my Junior Year in High School, I felt my world implode. My mom was diagnosed with cancer after a routine test done at the hospital. My family was thrown for a loop over the course of the next 14 months, my mom was fortunate to survive the colon cancer and I was fortunate to have some amazing friends, teammates and coaches to help me keep myself afloat when I thought my world was ending. I would not be the person that I am today without help from them, I appreciate them so much (even to this day). They knew when to handle me with care and to when to handle me with less care (mostly telling me to grow up and toughen up). I wrote this as an assignment for my creative writing class (Earning a solid A on it!) and after some hard work to work the "wrinkles" out, I've decided to post a piece of mine and my families 14 months of hell. I really don't think I got most of the filler conversations 100% correct (they happened like four or five years ago). This is probably the most personal piece that I have posted to date, I hope you enjoy!

Listen I’m not judging anyone but my brother can’t get his shit together. He doesn’t have the best choice in females or friends or lifestyle. His life is literally going nowhere. And he thinks its ok because one day our parents will walk through our front door and tell him to get his life together but that will never happen. That’s because they were involved in a car accident about a year ago. Now you may be thinking how am I so okay with this, I act as if nothing happened. Well I don’t let my emotions get in the way of anything, I’m stronger than he is and I realize that our lives still will go on with or without them. It may help that I wasn’t in the car when it happened. He blames himself for the crash but he can’t. We live with our aunt Stephanie who (bless her soul) doesn’t know how to help us. But she has the biggest heart just like her sister and when she learned that the son in the other car survived and was having trouble she took custody of him as well. Yeah the crash didn’t just involve my family, it involved the Ryder family. It left their son Blake and my brother Noah the soul survivors. Blake’s been away a long time but my aunt says he’s gotten himself into some trouble. She thinks it’s because he doesn’t have a family that loves him. So this is the story of how my family adopted Blake Ryder and helped him and my brother fight their demons.
