Omar Osman escaped Sudan. That was supposed to be the happy ending.
But in Reims, France, at the prestigious Sciences Po university, Omar is drowning. His French isn't fast enough. His grades aren't good enough. The guilt of three meals a day while his family rations food is crushing him. And worst of all-France, the country giving him refuge, is the same country selling weapons that kill Sudanese people.
As Omar navigates panic attacks triggered by snowfall, professors who want his "diverse perspective" but not his truth, and the suffocating isolation of being the only one who understands what war actually means, his mental health spirals toward crisis.
A 3 AM call from a rooftop. An intervention by the aid worker who saved him. A therapist who finally understands. And slowly, painfully, Omar begins to heal-not by forgetting, but by telling his story.
"En France" is about survivor's guilt, complex trauma, and the myth that safety erases pain. It's about found family, the power of testimony, and learning that making it out alive is just the beginning. When Omar receives news that his family might join him in France, everything changes-his breakdown becomes a breakthrough, and his survival starts to mean something.
