This story is based on the events recorded by one of many eyes and ears within the harem of Sultan Suleiman. This story is the story of Gülbeyaz Haskei Sultan; the mother of 14 children of Suleiman's. This story was inspired by the records from the harem from 1511 until the death of Gülbeyaz in 1582. Some of the events are based on historical fact and the personal writings of Gülbeyaz and the people in her life. This story follows her life as she enters the harem of Suleiman and as she navigates life as one of Suleiman's consorts and a mother and the life in the Ottoman Empire. She was very quickly married off into a marriage which was everything but successful. She decided she won't allow his misbehaviour to her. She knew she was Sultana who won't allow anyone to disrespect her. She returned to Istanbul by the will of divorcing and searching for happy life, but her life wouldn't be so easy as she thought so.

Neslihan Sultan was born as daughter of Sultan Mahmud and Hibetullah Sultan. She enjoyed her easy life with her parents and siblings in Topkapi palace, all until her 18th birthday when her father suddenly died. It was a surprise to everyone especially to her who was her father's favourite child. Since there was no rule of fratricide anymore, the throne was inherited by the eldest prince of the Imperial Family. Then her cousin Orhan ascended the throne, only because he was four years elder than her brother Kasim. Orhan locked her brother Kasim in kafes and exiled her mother, and then he decided Neslihan as only female Sultana by birth in the dynasty could do something that would bring him a favour. Instead of continuing the war with Crimeans, he decided to give his cousin Neslihan to Khanzade Mehmed Giray, who just ascended throne, as a wife. Crimeans knew she was jewel of Ottoman dynasty and accepted it to end the war. Mehmed Giray's life changed completely. He had to abandon woman he loves just because he had a duty to marry Ottoman Sultana who was of higher position than him. He had to abandon his harem and have her as his only wife, even though that was the last thing he wanted. He had to marry a woman to save his country, but that decision would only affect him. How would Neslihan and Mehmed handle the decision that was made by someone who has higher authority than them? Will they find their way to happiness beside everything, or will they live their life desperate because they are forced to be with someone they don't even know?

The series follows the reign of Sultan Süleyman (r. 1520-1566), known in the West as Suleiman the Magnificent. At age 26 Suleiman takes the throne. During his reign he gathers many sons and one daughter. Only one son may take the throne (not necessarily the eldest). During his early reign a concubine called Alexandra (Hurrem) catches his eye and sets his works on fire. Historically Hurrem is one of the most powerful and influential women of the Ottoman dynasty.
