When Iris was six years old, she stopped talking. For two years, she lived in silence-until she found Jude in an abandoned treehouse deep in the forest. He was the first person who never asked her to explain herself, the first person who understood the strange way she saw the world. Years later, Jude is still there. He climbs through her window when her light is on. He waits for her in the woods. He knows every version of her that nobody else ever tried to understand. Except no one else can see him. Her family says he isn't real. Her psychiatrist says he's a part of her mind. And after hearing it for years, Iris begins to wonder if they might be right. Because what happens when the person who makes you feel the most real is the one everyone else calls imaginary? Some people see faces in the clouds. Iris saw a boy in the forest.

This is a collection of poetry from the mindset of someone with synesthesia, the amazing perceptual condition to be able to see sounds, hear colors, and other abnormal connections to numbers or specific colors. Each person experiences it differently, and even though I do not have synesthesia, I am trying to write in a way that shows you differences like this. Enjoy :)
