O mundo já não é mais o mesmo depois da Eclosão. Depois de quando os espíritos começaram a possuir corpos de animais e a caçar tudo o que viam pela frente em forma de chamas e deixando apenas cinzas para trás. Refugiados se espalharam por todo o globo, mas logo depois foi descoberto que algumas crianças estavam dividindo seus corpos com o mundo espiritual. Crianças que ficaram conhecidas como hospedeiras de entidades. Elas eram as únicas capazes de combater as criaturas que não pertenciam ao mundo material. Sendo uma dessas crianças criadas para o combate, Norah e seus parceiros de equipe serão os próximos a ficarem na linha de frente nessa batalha após 14 anos aprisionados no Instituto. Tudo isso para evitar que a Eclosão possa se expandir pelo mundo inteiro, mas algumas mudanças acontecem pelo caminho. Quem é o lado certo? Quem é o bem e quem é o mal? Quem é a fonte de todo esse caos?
