But I also knew that I couldn’t. I knew that if I stopped, she would slit his throat, and kill him right there. She would take him and make him pay, for everything that I had done, for everything that was my fault. Xavier was being selfless, just like Xander and Avril had been…but did they really deserve to die for this? “Scarlett, don’t!” Avril shouted. She had voiced what Xavier hadn’t. She didn’t care that if I stopped, she would die too. She didn’t care that if I stopped, I’d make the same mistake that Nathan had. She didn’t care that if I stopped, she would not live to see her happy ending. She didn’t care. But I did. I could not let them die. I could not live with that guilt. I could not live with that regret. I had to save them. I had to do this for them. I walked on and handed the devil the key to the ultimate power that she was hungry for, unwillingly. But if I didn’t, she would use me against me and destroy my life, and everyone else’s in this room. My dad died for me, for one mistake that I had made. I could not let others die too. “Scarlett, please…don’t give it to her…” Xavier spoke. For a moment, his eyes held mine and I could see regrets, annoyance, disgust, hopelessness, anger, love and selflessness in them. The demons held him back, despite his attempts to run to me and tell me that all of this was a bad dream. But it wasn’t. And it was all my fault. I would do all it takes to get them out of this. With this resolution, I walked to her and handed her the stone. I could see the ecstasy of power, of invincibility on her face when she turned to Xavier. “congratulations on getting such a girl, son. Pity she wouldn’t live to see the light of day."
