When they get there, they find that their parents are gone. At first, everyone is excited about their newfound freedom...but it becomes dangerous very fast. Democracy starts to rise, and with it comes a whole lot of chaos. She walks home and look around the house for her parents but she doesn't find them, she decides to sleep, thinking it would all go back to normal in the morning..... Maia Cardoso has lived in Quixadá, Brazil, her whole life. She graduated early, at the top of her class, and many out of country colleges had given her scholarships, but she refused each of them, wanting to stay with her family. But one day her city is flooded after a freak hurricane, and she has no choice but to accept a scholarship to Yale University in order to have a place to live.
