The clans have recovered from the harsh life at the lake, and many seasons have passed. The clans have been at peace for months, and the nursery is full in each of the four clans. Once a prophecy hits Shadowclan, both Ivystar and Willowstep watch for it in each kit they witness born. The two young cats they expect the least end up fulfilling their dreams. "The briar will bloom, and become the night that shines from the stars and break through the darkness of shade".

Dawncurl is born into perfection. Her mother always told her that life was a blessing and that she should never take it for granted. However since the birth of she and her brother, she was instantly cast aside by her father who favored her brother and claimed he would be heir to the throne. However, the roles will soon reverse when Dawncurl is discovered to be a skilled strategist and combatant. Not just skilled, but a prodigy. With this information she is finally given the praise she's always craved from her father. Along the journey, she finds out her family isn't so perfect and she will become the victim of it all. As a looming darkness unfolds, Dawncurl will fall under the hold of her father. Adoring his praise, she goes to grave measures to ensure that she keeps it, no matter the consequences; even if it means hurting the cats that she loves most.

Threepaw helps Dawn's Pack as much as she can, but with her warrior assessment coming up and a pack of dogs encroaching on ThunderClan territory, she can only do so much. While she evades visions of blood and crying kits, a dark warrior seeks her out to make her his new apprentice. Skypaw struggles to find her place in RiverClan as she keeps making mistakes that jeopardize her chance to become a warrior with her sisters. Will her new kittypet friends help her focus on her training, or will their easy life tempt her away from the Clans? Mistpaw has support from his mother and his brother, but the shadow of his father's expectations weighs on his shoulders, making the simplest of tasks seem like a test. And Moonkit is still hearing the ancient voices from a time long gone, but she can't seem to learn where they're from. The Darkforest warriors are also impatient to begin her training, which means long nights within their territory, fighting for her life. StarClan voices their concern for following Dawn's prophecy, but it may be the only prophecy the Clans can rely on.

The stars have disappeared from the sky. The Clans are spiritually untethered. WindClan leader Houndstar thinks himself the solution to this problem, dragging nine other Clan cats out into the wilderness on a fool's errand pilgrimage to return StarClan to cats who have since learned to give without their guidance. Tensions rise, and it becomes clear to unwilling pilgrim and SkyClan medicine apprentice Vulturepaw that death and mystery has cursed their mission from the beginning...

I lost interesting in writing this book, and I feel like I should rather discontinue it then keep people waiting for a chapter that won't come.
