A personal essay on the truth of coming forward as a sexual assault survivor, this 5,000 word short piece tells the story of my court case. Brutally honest and heartbreakingly candid, I expose my deepest secret, I expose what it took to survive, I expose the truth.

When I was born, they gave me the watch. It started with 17 years, 3 months, 5 hours, 39 minutes, and 17 seconds. Now, I watch, excited, as it ticks down. 5 seconds. 4 seconds. 3 seconds. 2 seconds. 1 second. For that one beautiful moment, it says seven days. Seven days, and the most important thing of my life will happen. Will I meet my true love? Will I finally get accepted into my dream college? That sounds wonderful, but I can't help thinking... What if it's something dreadful? ~not completed.

Waiting. All of us are waiting for something. But one day, we find we've been waiting for too long. The darkness grows. Grows stronger... Then, your time runs out.

This poem is an ode to every girl, to every woman who has been left unsatisfied, harassed, assaulted or raped or by her man or some other man. Since the clock started ticking, women have been oppressed and subjugated by some uncivilised men and other immoral women. It is time we bring the change and even yet, lead the change to make this world a better place for little girls to reside in. Inspired by the "Me Too" and "Times Up" movement. Why have we a society swept sexual assault under the rug as if it is a normal thing that happens in the daily life? Why do we Women have to worry about not being paid as much as our male coworkers? We must end the silence and raise awareness. In my way of helping I will be writing poems and statements to help spread the word of the whole movement.

|| ONC 2020 || Round One Qualifier When Cara was asked out by a cute guy at school, she had no reason to say no... or to believe it would be one of the worst decisions of her life. A year later and she is still dealing with the trauma, attending a support group for survivors of sexual assault. When a fellow classmate named Tabitha joins the support group, Cara is terrified she'll tell everyone at school her secret. She knows she's supposed to rely on the other members but can't help feeling that something is off about Tabitha. Refusing to trust her, Cara decides to keep her distance. That is until Tabitha tells the story of her own assault, the details of which sound eerily familiar to Cara. Realizing they have much more in common than simply sharing a support group, the two of them work together to pick up the pieces of their shattered pasts. But when another girl comes forward with a similar story, they decide picking up the pieces just isn't enough.
