Taro is a transgender boy who was closeted at the start. He was dating Autumn who also turns out to be a trans boy. Autumn goes by Jace during the story but he is closeted so only Taro calls him Jace while the two are together. Taro is also Vietnamese living in a mostly white town.

A 14 year old boy, Minato has never figured out why he didn't like (typically) masculine clothes, or was insecure about his appearance. Until a voice called to him to explore the closet in his room. Then he turned into a she and found herself completely euphoric. In the other world, she goes by "Victoria". And now she's working her way through her life in the closet and real life to coming out to her parents and friends with the help of the mayor of the other dimension named Hibiki, another transgender woman. I do relate with one character in the book though, and I do have friends I will try an base some of these characters off of.
