Believing in someone means giving them power over you. And the man in the moon uses that power to survive, at all cost. Pitch is not on board with being consumed by the man in the moon. There is only one way out, if he can only convince the guardians to help him.

It literally took me about 2 hours mulling over what I would do for this contest's theme. If I were to be quite honest with you all, I REALLY didn't want to do a Lorax thing for this contest, (and the Once-ler's character arc was already too canon for things lmao) but then this idea just... came up. And it was too good and heartbreaking to pass up. Because the first thing I thought up when I saw the contest details was that, "DAMN I'm so gonna write about a Hero turned Villain! But I need an unconventional hero who doesn't really turn evil, just... someone who did something really awry and that in turn makes them the bad guy for doing it." And so I wrote this short fic with a screaming heart because that idea was just perfect. An AU where Ted... well... just read it to find out, I guess? Also hey. When she realized she had not been invited to the baptism of the young princess she wasn't raging-she was humiliated. And even when she knew that showing up on the palace would only result in degrading herself further, she couldn't stop herself at the doors of her tower, like would have been prudent, and flied to the king's castle. And yet, it was she who cleaned and tidied up the castle, keeping it in optimum conditions, in wait for the princess' comeback. It was she, the old regretful fairy, the one who was forced to recognize that a human's heart was indeed different from a nymph's or a fairy's. And yes, yes, it was she who cried in joy when the graceful princess opened her cerulean eyes and looked to her direction with gratefulness, even when the fairy had conjured the shadows to conceal her form.
