Louis Herz ist zerrissen. Nicht nur seine Mutter, sondern auch seine kleine Schwester mussten ihn viel zu früh verlassen. Er will aufgeben, alles hinter sich lassen und wieder bei ihnen sein, doch aus irgendeinem Grund, bietet das Schicksal ihm die Möglichkeit zwischen Leben und Tod zu wählen. Er entscheidet sich für das Leben, dafür, sein Leben für die beiden weiter zu leben. So lernt er auch eine Frau kennen, in die er sich so unsterblich verliebt, dass er sich täglich dafür bedankt, am Leben zu sein.
