« Hors-jeu », c'est une histoire d'amour très classique mais nécessaire ! Nécessaire parce qu'elle met en scène l'histoire de Tom et de Lucas. Nécessaire parce qu'en 2026, quoi qu'on en dise et même s'il y a des avancées, l'homosexualité - et plus globalement la question de l'orientation sexuelle - reste un sujet sensible. L'intrigue s'inscrit dans le milieu du sport, et plus particulièrement dans celui du football, parce que ça touche davantage les jeunes mais aussi parce que je suis convaincu que certains stéréotypes, dont nous sommes toutes et tous imprégné(e)s, sont enracinés dès l'enfance par différents canaux, dont le sport. « Arrête de jouer comme une tapette. » « C'est un sport d'hommes ici. » « Faut pas être une fiotte pour tacler. » « Si t'as peur du contact, va faire du patinage artistique. » « Il court comme une fille. » « Ça joue trop propre, on dirait des gays. » Ce sont quelques phrases qui m'ont été rapportées par des ados et que de jeunes sportifs peuvent donc parfois entendre dès leur plus jeune âge. Elles sont socialement admises, que ce soit ou bord du terrain ou dans la vie quotidienne. Vous aussi, vous les avez peut-être déjà entendues. Peut-être même prononcées. Cela ne veut pas dire que les personnes qui tiennent ces propos sont nécessairement homophobes mais ça contribue à structurer une vision de l'homosexualité qui serait synonyme de faiblesse ou, pire encore, qui serait une menace pour l'ordre social. Le sport, les associations de tous bords et l'école devraient promouvoir davantage l'altérité sans verser dans un quelconque militantisme, cela va de soi. Cette lecture, je l'ai écrite dans le but de l'utiliser en classe et elle suscite toujours de nombreuses réactions. J'épingle ici un commentaire intéressant d'un élève : « En fait, si je relis l'histoire en imaginant que c'est un homme et une femme, ça ne change rien aux sentiments qui sont exprimés. »

Annabelle and Isabelle are two very different girls, they are also twins. When their parents were in a car accident in which they were hit by a drunk driver, they both get sent to foster homes because none of their other family members would take them in. The girls only being a year old at the time, were separated and never saw one another again. They both faced hardships and have experienced things that no one should ever have to go through. The girls coincidently apply to the same boarding school for their senior year: Richmond Academy. Isabelle is not your ordinary girl. She can kick butt and isn't afraid to tell you the truth straight to your face. She puts up a facade of being a strong and bubbly girl but inside she feels weak and useless. She only has her best friend Ashton whom is very rich but also very abandoned by hiw woraholic parents. Her passion is photography as well as art and music: the only things keeping her sane. Isabelle decides to apply to Richmond Academy to start a new life and finally be in control of her life. She hopes to finally become a new person and maybe even open up to people and turn a new leaf. Annabelle is quite the opposite of Isabelle. She drowns herself in her books and tries not to get involved with anyone. She isn't unsociable but she is also very reserved. Her passions are to read and write because that's the only real way she can express herself fully with no judgments. Annabelle applies to Richmond Academy because she would also like to start over and she would very much like to finally escape her past. When their worlds collide they begin to open up, become new people and discover many secrets about themselves that they never knew. They must also face something they have never felt before: love.
