Joel is forced to visit his father in a small town south of Los Angeles, Ca in hopes to mend their relationship and not knowing he was battling Cancer. There, he meets Christopher, a cute yet edgy boy who's hiding a secret about the fire that happened in the town's church. The same one his father was blamed for.

Alone, friendless, and washed up on shore, Chris is a merman in a whole world of trouble. He soon discovers living on land can be tough, especially when he falls for a cute land boy who is petrified of the ocean. *This is an adaptation of the ao3 fic "The Waves Are Ours" by JetBlackSunshine and credit for the story goes completely to them*
