In the year of our Lord eighteen hundred and twenty-one, when the ash trees whispered their secrets into the wind and the village of Norbridge still dreamed in its sleep, a letter arrived at Hawthorn House. It came wrapped in linen, the wax seal unbroken, its ink smelling faintly of violets and loss. Miss Margaret Linwood read it thrice before the hour of breakfast. She was twenty-seven, and already the world had begun to forget her. Her beauty, once the subject of idle parlor praise, had quieted into something less golden, more ash-colored. The kind of beauty that made people stare and then turn quickly away. She spoke with the diction of the well-read, but her voice was not remembered. Her presence was often mistaken for absence. And yet, she held within her a sort of storm. The kind that doesn't announce itself in thunder, but in the slow, aching flood that follows.

A warning from a nightmare future. Ten years after the UK fragmented, the emergency mandate of the Consensus goverment is coming to an end. At long last a General Election is due. World-weary journalist Richard Davies becomes reluctantly drawn into the aspiring National Renewal Party's campaign. But as long suppressed social tensions erupt on to the streets of a nation so much like - yet so different from - our own, he stumbles across a conspiracy aimed at the very heart of the relaunched democracy. With his options for doing the right thing in a world gone wrong narrowing and time running out, somehow Richard has to survive long enough to expose the greatest scoop of his career. A 151,000 word novel written between 2012-14. The 'future' I imagined has diverged from our current timeline, but many of the book's themes are still sadly only too relevant. For more information and a plot overview I recommend the companion Readers' Guide. https://www.wattpad.com/story/51378045-the-blurt-of-richard-davies-reading-guide This novel contains mature, unsettling, and dark themes. The Blurt was previously voluntarily listed as Mature, but if Wattpad won't play fair by their hiding works so listed from being seen by the general audience, I see no reason to abide by such a ridiculous policy. Just be aware of what it is you are getting into.

People often assume that to want is the same as to need. And that is where they are mistaken. There's a fine line between some things that point out there oppositions, their differences and their uniqueness from each other. The line between want and need is so visible, that it's actually quite invisible. To never judge a book by its cover was, I think , the perfect way to describe me. I am a visible disguise, one people can see, but not really see.

I walk alone on these streets at night. Never to be seen, never to be heard. You'd think someone as interesting looking as me would gain some attention. But here, people could care less about how you look. It's all about how you act. What your element is. What your powers are. A commoner like me with mediocre talents isn't noticed at all. Practically invisible. --------------------- Key bank: Minutes- the small children (before age 6) who are carefree. Visibles- the "populars," extroverts in modern society. The ones who have a lot of confidence and love the world. Usually less observant than the Invisibles; living in the present world unafraid. Invisibles- the "losers," introverts in modern society. The ones who have low self-esteem and have seen the real world. Usually more observant than the Visibles. --------------------- Everything in this story is connected to my real life. My own thoughts. This is what makes Practically Invisible special to me. Not because I wrote this in 2 days or I had finally finished something. But this is a peek into my own life. A lot of these words are directly from my own mind the part that nobody is supposed to see. So please don't leave any rude comments here. If you do, you will be blocked as soon as I see the comment. No exceptions.

The unthinkable has happened; the endgame has come, and there's no easy way to win. Sacrifice the lives and freedom of all of your subjects for the chance to save a lost loved one, or lose the one forever to your responsibility. These thoughts start a chain event that spans centuries. Caught in the middle of it all is Jay Holden, an Enby adult who strives for normalcy despite being in a body that fights against them. Add in a little magic, and it becomes chaos.
