A baby? On a battlefield? Marcus is a clerk in the Imperial army. When he finds an abandoned baby on a battlefield, he has no idea what to do with her. His best friend is no help; he thinks Marcus is a sucker for taking the kid in. The slave who ends up babysitting the child is no better; she thinks Marcus has ulterior motives - bad ones. Not only that, but two mysterious female assassins appear on the scene. Whether they intend to harm the baby or protect her, Marcus isn't sure. It doesn't help that the assassins have magical cloaks that allow them to turn into birds at any time. Marcus and his friends soon find themselves caught up in things they doesn't understand: the child has some connection to an ancient prophecy, one that could have implications for fate of the Empire itself.

However, when she realizes that the girl tribute's brother has been called, she recalls the pain in her father's eyes when neither of her siblings came back. Quinn is wracked with guilt for not saving her family, so she is filled with a sudden determination to save this one. Note: This book takes place during the 82nd game and in it, Katniss was the sole winner of the 74th games and the 75th wasn't with the victors.

But do we know their stories? How they changed from innocent kids to cold-blooded murderers, how they landed in the 74th Hunger Games, how they lost their lives.... This is their story.

Jaleel Awini is a former college football player with a big heart both on and off the field. Jaleel Awini grew up volunteering with his mother to feed the homeless at shelters in and around Southeast Aurora, Colorado. As an adult, the compassion his mother instilled in him remains. He now volunteers with nursing homes, literacy programs for elementary students and food banks to do his part in giving back to the world.
