A short story about a young middle schooler called Kim Burnham. "Flowers, grass, the wind blowing through my hair, the ocean washing up against the shore, the sun burning against my skin, the feeling of summer. Those are all things that don't matter to me anymore, I've lost my mind in a spiral of negativity and insanity. Ever since my parents died I've been different. Yes, my two wonderful parents died. Fiona and Ben Brunham, ironically enough, burned to death and all I did was watch. After that I've felt so insecure and so vulnerable. It has opened a new part of my brain that I didn't even know of. And now I don't have the emotions I used to. Also, I have to live with aunt Marin out in New Orleans now. She's usually kind, but at the nights she drinks. She gets irrational and unreasonable."
