"I tried," she said, looking up as tears streaked down her face.
"I know," he whispered. Taking in her pain, he gently brushed away her tears-wiping away her hurt, even while carrying a deeper wound of his own.
"I'm tired," she murmured, locking eyes with him. She recognized his agony, but beneath it, she caught a glimpse of relief.
"And this is where we end it," he said, voice trembling as he fought to hold back his own tears. It broke him, but he knew it was necessary. They had to let go.
Their relationship began on forced ground-one person pouring everything into a hollow void, believing love alone would be enough. But what happens when one only knows how to receive, too naive to ever give back? Can a yearning, one-sided love survive, or will it ultimately destroy them both?
