Years after leaving Philippine Science High School Main Campus, Sheena Marie Ballesteros returns for an alumni gathering expecting the usual reunion rituals: old jokes, career updates, group photos, and the strange experience of seeing former classmates as adults. Then Christopher Laurence Marquez walks in. Everyone remembers Christopher as the quiet one: brilliant, careful, composed, and difficult to read. He was the kind of batchmate people respected from a distance, someone who always seemed certain of where he was going even when the rest of them were still figuring themselves out. Years later, Christopher is still unmistakably himself, with the same precision, quietness, and habit of listening before he speaks. Yet as the afternoon goes on, Sheena begins to notice small differences she cannot quite name, enough to make the version of Christopher in her memory feel incomplete. Between familiar teasing, old stories, and conversations shaped by the years they spent apart, Sheena and their batchmates begin to reconsider what they thought they knew about one another. What starts as an ordinary school reunion becomes a quiet look at memory, adulthood, and the gap between the people we remember and the people they become when life continues beyond our view. [A post-Constellations Underfoot novella]

I had been in the Woodland Local Police Department for as long as I can remember. Under the Domestic Crime Unit Division, I have handled many disputes between husbands and wives, from the pettiest charges to the most gruesome cases. But only one remained in my memory very vividly as if it would haunt me for life-even in my sleep. That case from 3 weeks ago at House No. 0192, Delfina St., Privette Drive, Mizuri Subdivision, Ludvega District, Woodland, Parkinson City. Case no. 283-9282 states the account of a husband and wife dying in the same scene, inside their own house after a huge and contemptuous fight. There's no eyewitness. No close neighbors to tell us what's been going on inside that lonesome house at the end of Delfina Street. There is not enough evidence to conclude the case and I have a hunch that it will only end up dusting on top of numerous folders inside the cold case drawers in the station's archive. But what struck me hard into thinking about this mystery is how a thin pile of witness testimony forms disappeared from the patrol car when I came back after checking the house for the second time around. And on the last day of our scene investigation, as if mocking the incompetent police force, the missing pile of statement forms miraculously came back-filled up, signed, and neatly narrating the story as if they were there from the beginning until the ending. Only that, the most ridiculous part of that phenomenon- aside from having multiple, conflicting witness accounts-are the signatures. It seems to me that whoever signed those forms must be bored and bold enough to play a big and practical joke on us, under our noses. - 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐄𝐧𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐞 "𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗖𝗘𝗡𝗘 𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗪𝗜𝗧𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗦" 𝘈𝘯 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯 𝘦𝘱𝘪𝘴

He's been called the Devil for 1000 years. He carries every lie, every hurt, every "I don't care" so you don't have to. I met him in a room with no doors. He wasn't scary. He was crying. So I asked the one question no one ever asked him: "Why are you crying?" This is the story of what happened after. Of the mark on my wrist. Of the rule: Ask. Listen. Let go. Of learning that saving someone isn't fixing them. It's sitting in the dark until it's less dark. Even villains get lonely. Even darkness needs someone who won't run. Even you deserve to be asked. A complete short story about grief, compassion, and the night the devil cried.
