Learn to write like the best of writers. Learn to write beautifully. Learn to write like a rose will grow. *** How to Write Beautiful Fiction is different from other 'how to' books for fiction writers. It discusses the philosophical concepts behind writing beautiful fiction, fiction that will never leave a person's mind, fiction that engages an audience right to its thrilling, satisfying, or engaging end. In this book, you will learn secrets on how to grow as a real writer, how to develop habits that will serve you in the long run, and how to impress others with words and leave them on the edge of their seats. Covering plot, ideas, structure, tools, and more, this story is the 'soul' of the fiction writer's craft. So what are you waiting for? Read on.

On my blog (www.lydiasanders.com) I have a series called "An Eclectic Writing Class" where I gather resources on productivity, writing craft, grammar, and vocabulary into monthly lessons. These monthly posts also include updates on my own writing projects and writing prompts of my own creation. Rather than including my prompt-inspired writing in my blog posts, I've opted to post it here on Wattpad. This isn't intended to be well-polished writing, and I don't want critiques or editing help for these scenes---I know they're all kinds of messed up. The parts won't necessarily follow any sort of story structure or make sense. Aside from typing up what I've written and fixing a few spelling and punctuation errors, this is unedited. There are even [placeholder words] and {notes to myself} within the text which I'll need to change later if I end up actually using this writing for anything. Most of the prompts are phrases intended to be somehow included in the scene. Beginning sentence, ending sentence, worked into the middle somehow--it doesn't matter. These phrases can be found in the part titles. You're welcome to take the prompts and use them to spark your own work. I would love to see what you come up with. I recommend setting a timer for 20-25 minutes and writing whatever pops into your head. If you need to tweak something in the phrase to make it work for your story, like changing a pronoun or swapping an animal out for a different one, go for it. There are no rules here. Just write. If you would like to check out the blog post lesson associated with the parts, you can click the external link at the bottom of each part. Cheers!

I'm happy to announce that Cecilia Brainard's FUNDAMENTALS OF CREATIVE WRITING, REVISED AND EXPANDED EDITION has been released and can be found at amazondotcom. The Revised edition is a practical how-to-write book that can be used as a text book or it can be read by those interested in learning how to write. The author Cecilia Manguerra Brainard, an award-winning fiction writer, who taught for over 25 years at UCLA Extension's Writers Program and other universities, shares all the tools needed to write fiction and creative non-fiction. She breaks down the basic elements of creative writing such as setting, scene, character, conflict, dialogue, plot, and so on into sections. Each section starts with a concept, followed by related exercises, and a story or two to illustrate the creative writing component just discussed. This book includes the author's advice to beginning writers, and a lengthy interview of the author, in which the author discusses her background, what got her started in writing, the struggles she faced, her development as a writer. She also discusses the genesis of some of her stories including her three novels. The author's no-nonsense approach makes this book useful to many instructors of Creative Writing who will appreciate the straightforward guidance, writing activities, and complementary stories in the book. This book, Fundamentals of Creative Writing, Revised and Expanded Edition offers more information to demystify and explain the writing process thus enhancing the learning experience of the beginning writer. An earlier edition of this book was published in 2009 by Anvil in the Philippines, now out of print. The book was used by many teachers in their classrooms. During the time of Covid, and to help teachers and students, the author made the first edition Fundamentals of Creative Writing available online for free. Thousands availed of this pandemic free offer.

Hello readers and aspiring authors! Living Life Authorly will be an ongoing list of articles that I write and include in my newsletters. Every other month, I will focus on some aspect of writing or some aspect of being a writer, and that piece will be included in the bimonthly (every other month) newsletter I send out to my followers. A month after sending out my newsletter, I post the article to my blog. I will also start posting them here on my Wattpad page as well. Some articles might be about my experiences in the world of writing, my adventures at book and author events, or tips and ideas about writing and marketing. Whatever I might be writing about, I hope it will offer some inspiration or encouragement to you in some way or another. Happy reading and writing! - J.E. Johnson

In this book each chapter is a writing prompt, often some dialogue to inspire you. As a fantasy/romantasy writer these writing prompts are from those genres. You'll also find common tropes like arranged/forced marriage, enemies-to-lovers, and lots more. Here some examples of what you'll find: My fiancé tried to murder me. Granted, he didn't know back then that I was his fiancé. That doesn't stop me from holding a grudge though. I loved the beast. And it cost me everything. She could have killed me. The opportunity had been there. Instead, she'd thrown me into a cell deep in her basement. A smile curved my lips. That could only mean one thing. She liked me.
