Grey Echo is a Creature Hunter, someone born with the powers and abilities to fight and defeat the monsters of myth: vampires, werewolves and deadly witch clans. She has spent the last ten years of her life at a school that trains Creature Hunters for the lives they will lead as they help to cleanse the world of the Creatures. Upon entrance to the school, each student is introduced to their Maisling Fairy to whom each Hunter is linked psychically. Together, the Hunter and Fairy spend ten years at the school learning about each other and working to hone their skills so they can become the best possible team they can be. One the night of her graduation from the school, Grey and her Maisling, Forma, learn from the professors why Grey cannot remember anything before her days at school: her family was murdered. This sets off a series of sudden flashbacks for Grey and she remembers that it was a Vanguard Vampire named Evan that committed the crime. Fuelled by vengeance, Grey and Forma set off towards Vikka, Romania: the city of Vanguard Vampires, eager to search for Evan both to unearth the truth and to exact her revenge. Along the way, Grey and Forma begin to unearth secrets in their adventures that somehow tie into Grey's past. As they travel through the European countryside doing everything from rescuing an entire species of elves from captivity to saving a queen from nasty underground dwellers, they discover the mysteries surrounding Grey's past and unlock the key to her ultimate destiny.
