في الوقت الذي جف فيه النيل حتى بدت عروقه اليابسة، وسقطت هيبة "منف" تحت وطأة ثورة الجياع، يستيقظ "يحيى" في إقليم "إسنا" جنوباً. الأرض التي كانت سلة غلال مصر تحولت إلى ساحة حرب بين أمراء الأقاليم الذين يتقاتلون على "قطرة ماء" و"حفنة قمح". يحيى لا يملك سيفاً، لكنه يملك عقل مهندس يفهم حركات النجوم ومسارات المياه المخفية. يدرك يحيى أن الخطر ليس في الجوع فقط، بل في "النسيان"؛ فالهوية المصرية تتآكل، والقبائل الآسيوية والليبية تبدأ في التسلل عبر الحدود المستباحة. بمساعدة "ميريت"، ابنة أحد الحكام المحليين المخلصين، يبدأ يحيى رحلة انتحارية لبناء "سد الأمل" (نظام ري مبتكر) لتوحيد الأقاليم عبر المصالح المائية أولاً، ثم السياسية ثانياً، تمهيداً لظهور من سيعيد الوحدة (منتوحتب الثاني مستقبلاً).
