The characteristics are all true. The hole is just as I described it and was caused from glaciers. However, it's not filled to the brim with murky black water. The effect of the drop-off is actually kinda ruined by all the trees that have grown up. I'm not quite sure where the name came from either, but it lends itself quite nicely to my story. Thanks for asking!
