Thanks to one_weird_fangirl for giving me this writing prompt!

I opened my eyes. A piercing white light hurt my head. I closed my eyes again. I heard a voice.

"We aren't sure what stage she is at yet. Could be mild, or really severe. Until then, we are gonna keep her here."

The voice wasn't familiar. I listened further, and heard a sob. It sounded like... Was that... My mother?

"Whatever is best for her."

This voice, however, sounded like one I recognized. My father. I tried opening my eyes again, this time more slowly. I stretched my neck by rolling my head around on my shoulders.

"Oh good, she's waking up. We'll try to ease her into her new life here."

My eyes opened fully, and all I could see was white.

"Hello Bella!" The unrecognizable voice called from behind me.

I tried to stand up and turn around, but my hands were wrapped around me and I couldn't move them. I looked down.

I was in a straightjacket.

I tried to call for help from the voices, but there was a gag in my mouth. A man walked in front of me.

I breathed out through my nose. Someone would release me from this torture.

"Good morning! My name is Tobias." "

He looked in his early twenties. He had chocolate brown hair that was swept to the side. His eyes were a honey brown. He was quite tall. Most girls my age would probably find him attractive, but I did not.

"I will be your doctor while you are staying here."

Doctor? I finally started to connect the dots. White walls, straightjacket, gag, doctor. I was in a mental hospital.

"Let's start off today with an exercise. How do you feel?"

Tobias took the gag out of my mouth so I could answer him.

"I'm a little confused actually. Why am I here?"

Tobias looked at me, confused.

"You don't remember?"

"No, I'm afraid I don't."

Tobias wrote down something on a clipboard.

"Would you please tell me what you do remember?" He asked.

"I remember the voice you were talking with just thirty seconds ago. Was that my Mom and Dad?"

"Yes! It was! So you don't have full amnesia." He wrote something else on his clipboard.

"May I see them?" I asked.

"No I'm afraid not. You are too big of a threat for anyone to see you except me."

"If you don't mind me asking, why?" I questioned Tobias.

"Because Bella, you are a danger to society." He said, as if it were obvious. "You made a string of bad decisions that were endangering everyone. Yourself included. You have been called a psychopath by the good and honest people of this city. You cannot be let loose, or you will corrupt the rest of the world."

He had said that in such a monotone voice, some part of me wondered if this was an elaborate prank.

He shook his head.

"Anyway, after this simple experiment I've conducted, you aren't too insane. You can be let out of the straightjacket."

He undid the straightjacket and took a good look at me.

"How old are you?"

"Fifteen... Why?" I answered.

"Just wondering..."

He stared at me for a few seconds, and it made me feel uncomfortable.

"Alright!" He said, clapping his hands together. "Follow me!"

I stood up and fell back down. My legs had fallen asleep. I felt pins and needles as I tried to stretch them out.

Tobias helped me stand up. He looked at me again. I was beginning to wonder who the "insane" one was.

He led me out of the door and through a corridor. There were other white rooms, just like mine. We reached the end of a hall and waited for an elevator. While Tobias stood there, I looked around at the different rooms. I walked up to one and peered through the glass.

I saw nothing. Just an empty room. I turned around. (Can you feel the jump scare?) I heard something like a cough coming from in the room. I turned back to the door and once again, saw nothing.

"Hey is there anything in this r-"

I was cut off by one of the other patients jumping up to look through the window and letting out a blood curdling scream.

I screamed and stumbled back, into Tobias.

"Woah, careful there. You probably shouldn't look in through the windows. Lets get on the elevator."

He looked up into something. I looked up as well. I saw a camera. Was Tobias planning something?

We got onto the elevator and Tobias pressed the button to go to the second floor.

"We will be going to the cafeteria. Because you aren't too insane, you will be allowed to go to the cafeteria whenever you want."

Some elevator music started playing and things couldn't get more awkward. I opened my mouth to break the uncomfortable silence, but then closed it, not knowing what to talk about.

"So you said people call me a psychopath?" I asked.

"Yeah." Tobias answered.

"Why?"

"You're pretty much a mad scientist." He looked bored.

"Really?" I asked, intrigued.

"Yeah, but your inventions never worked out and always exploded. That's why you're in here." Tobias picked at his nails.

I was confused. I remember being smart, so why would my inventions always explode if I didn't want them to? Unless... I really was... Insane?
