At the beginning of the third task, shouts of merriment and pride erupted throughout the stands. You and your boyfriend sat together, hands clenching in excitement to see the winner of the Triwizard Tournament.

Now, the Beauxbatons contestant, your best friend, Fleur Delacour, had just made it back from the maze. So had the Durmstrang contestant, Viktor Krum. It was just a matter of time to determine which contestant from Hogwarts got to the end of the maze first.

You were worried about Fleur because she was escorted out of the maze when she sent up red sparks. Even from the long distance away, you could see the tension in her shoulders. Whatever she saw in there must have been horrific. Dumbledore made it quite clear that there were dangerous creatures in the maze, and the mist could alter the contestants' perceptions and cause them to see numerous horrifying images.

Waiting was boring, so you said, "Merlin, what's taking so long?"

"The maze must be bigger on the inside than it appears from the outside," your boyfriend answered with a thick, French accent. That's what you liked about him, he was able to see a multitude of possibilities despite the situation.

You continued on with the conversation until you heard gasps from the students in the stands. You were too far away to see, but you knew the champion of the Triwizard Tournament had finally landed on the transformed Quidditch Pitch. The music started up and flags dropped. Students all around were clapping and cheering loudly. The further away they were from the pitch, the louder they yelled.

Amos Diggory, the father of one of the Hogwarts competitors, Cedric Diggory, ran out onto the pitch. That must mean Cedric Diggory won. If so, where was the Chosen One?

That's how you knew Harry Potter. Everyone at your school was more than eager to find out what the Chosen One was like, how he managed to enter the competition in the first place, and how he would manage to survive.

The cheers closer to the ground turned into screams of terror. What is going on? you thought. Your boyfriend stood up suddenly, and you followed his lead.

Both of you leaned forward, trying to get a better look at what was happening on the pitch. Madame Maxime, the headmaster of Durmstrang, and multiple Hogwarts professors were running toward Cedric Diggory.

Then you realized, there were two figures where the champion should be. One in yellow was laying on the ground and the other in red was kneeling over him.

Both Harry Potter and Cedric Diggory returned? How was that possible? Was Diggory hurt? Why was Potter leaning over him like that?

The music came to a stop. You hear distinctive screaming. Over the mutters of the students, you heard Amos Diggory crying, "MY SON! THAT'S MY SON!"

You realized that Diggory was on the ground... because he was dead.

The next day, in the Great Hall, you stood with Beauxbatons, Durmstrang, and Hogwarts students alike in mournful silence. You didn't know Cedric Diggory, but you knew he was a bright, kind boy who didn't deserve to have his life cut so short.

Dumbledore said as much in his toast to him.

"Cedric Diggory was murdered by Lord Voldemort," Dumbledore said gravely. Panicked whispering erupted throughout the Hall.

He spoke about the British Ministry of Magic, unity throughout Europe's magical world, and Harry Potter's bravery in facing You-Know-Who and managing to return Cedric's body to Hogwarts.

Over the summer, your parents informed you that you all would be moving to the UK because your father received a job offer from the Ministry of Magic. Based on the events of the previous school year, you thought it unwise to move to the UK, but there was nothing you could do nor say to change their minds.

However, there was a bright side to attending Hogwarts. There were many kind people there and you were certain you could make a few friends at least.

The down side was that you had to leave your best friend and boyfriend. Your relationship with your boyfriend seemed like it was gradually going downhill, anyway. If you broke up with him under the pretense of not wanting to maintain a long-distance relationship, your friendship could be salvaged. You'd simply keep up a correspondence with Fleur by letter.

And, not to mention, there was that cute pureblood boy at Hogwarts. He had platinum blond hair, piercing grey eyes, and wore Slytherin robes. He'd made eyes at you whenever you passed by, or were within sight, but you never spoke to him because you were still with your boyfriend at the time. Even still, you liked the attention he gave you. You knew his name was Draco Malfoy and you wanted to know more.
