After being sorted into Ravenclaw, you were drawn to Luna Lovegood. She was quite confusing and difficult for you to understand, but that's what drew you to her. Whether the topic at hand was about Nargles or her recent encounter with bullies, you knew she was drawn to you too. You didn't know what it was; maybe it was the way you treated her kindly, as opposed to most others at Hogwarts.
Through spending time with Luna, you became good friends with two Gryffindors: Ginny Weasley and Neville Longbottom. They were able to listen to and understand your thoughts better than your boyfr- no, ex-boyfriend. Ginny was the toughest girl you had ever met. Growing up with a ragtag group of brothers, whose names you refused to learn out of spite, was the main reason she was able to stick up for herself and others, most importantly Luna. Sure you could be friends with the girls in your dorm, they weren't bad at all, especially Padma, but you and Luna's friends seemed to get along better.
You adapted to life at Hogwarts after transferring. You memorized your class schedule, you became acquaintances with people of every house, and you frequented Hogsmeade. Nearly everything about Hogwarts seemed to be perfect.
The only bad things about Hogwarts were Professor Umbridge and Professor Snape. They were two of the absolute worst people you had ever encountered, but your new friends made it bearable. You wouldn't have been able to survive five excruciating years of their classes had you gone to Hogwarts as a first year. Especially if you didn't have your friends with you.
You were a tactical learner. In Defense Against the Dark Arts, you needed to actually practice the spells rather than simply learning theory. You had Professor Umbridge to thank for that. Her style in teaching, or rather commanding lectures, was only the beginning to your growing hatred for her. Even despite that, she was just a straight up bitch.
In her class, you spoke up about how her teaching was ineffective, and that You-Know-Who had, in fact, returned. You were most likely the only Ravenclaw in your year to do something as brave as that. Speaking out of turn with only the word of the Chosen One and the Headmaster was something you'd never think of doing prior to your transfer. You were punished with multiple detentions and were forced to write, 'I must not speak out of turn.' over and over again. Using the blood quill was excruciating, but you remained stubborn in telling no one. The only people who knew were Luna, Ginny, and Neville. And probably whoever else had detentions with Umbridge, like Harry Potter.
Luna, Ginny, and Neville assured you that the DADA teachers were never like that in the past. They told you stories about how amazing Professor Remus Lupin was and about his unfortunate resignation. You found out that the professors' position for DADA was cursed, that professors never held the position for longer than a year.
When Luna and Hermione Granger approached you with the prospect of practicing defensive spells without the faculty's supervision, you were ecstatic. You went to Hogsmeade with Luna and followed her into Hogshead Tavern. There, you listened to what Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger's had to say. Obviously, you signed the sign-up sheet, name flashing when you made the last flourish.
Dumbledore's Army was incredible. You learned more in three meetings than you did from all of your DADA classes. Harry was an excellent instructor in helping every member. You knew it was dangerous, but you couldn't help but get a thrill whenever you snuck into the Room of Requirement.
You resented the fact that Draco Malfoy was in Umbridge's stupid Inquisitorial Squad, but there was nothing you could do. You only saw each other in select classes (Arithmancy, Transfiguration, and Herbology) and spoke once during your time at Hogwarts before he truly showed himself. He still made eyes at you, even when he was insulting you. Of course, you returned his insults. Not without admiring his attractive features, of course.
In the end, you knew dreaming of a chance with him was a lost cause. You and Draco were on opposite sides. He was a pureblood supremacist who supported Umbridge, and you were a half-blood who supported Harry Potter. There was no possible way for you to have a chance with him given the circumstances.
