A/N: New story for Tuesday updates. If anyone knows the artist of the cover picture, I would love to give them credit, so would you please tell me who they are. I found this on google. Thank you!
"Do you think it's true what they say?" The kid I was taking care of stopped in front of the castle. He pointed over at the big gates where a bunch of guards were standing.
"About what?"
"That the castle has a flower that can revive people from the dead." I watched the childlike wonder pass over his eyes. To have that imagination again.
"Don't you think the King would have use it to get rid of his sickness?" The little boy cocked his head to the side. He was thinking.
"Could it revive my mom?" I could only blink. I couldn't think of an answer that wouldn't upset him. "Mitch?" I decided to go with-
"I don't know." I gave the little boy a half smile. I have no idea if it's true.
"You shouldn't be this close to the gates." I jumped at the sound of a deep voice in my ear. The boy giggled at how the man had scared me. The man was one of the guards but his armor was flashy. I bet it was dreadful to where that armor just because someone (the King) wanted to be seen as proper.
"I'm s-sorry. We'll lea-ave." I tried pulling the boy so we could run from the man towering over us but he ran towards the high brick wall. "Justin!" The stranger grabbed me by the waist and slung me over his shoulder. "Put me down!" I landed a punch to his armor. Which was stupid on my part. I held my fist in pain.
"Stop squirming."
"Stop carrying me-oof!" I was dropped on my butt on the rough dirt roads. I glared up at the knight. But my anger seemed to fade. He is handsome. Very handsome. The sun was haloing around his face perfectly. His blue eyes were piercing and his blonde hair was styled to perfection. I could almost think of how he sees me. A drab orphan who is cover in dirt because of the day's work.
"Stay away from the gates." I hid my face when his commanding tone loomed over me.
"He's just a kid."
"He's fine. It's you we have a problem with."
"I'm not going to do anything." Justin ran to my side. He glared up at the guard. The guard glanced around before his whole tough guy act dropped.
"I have to. You don't understand how much security has gone up." I stood up from the ground, brushing the dirt from my jeans. "The King is sick. He has no children to carry on his name. You understand why I have to be like this now?" When his face relaxed like this, he looked even more handsome. I felt a blush come to my cheeks.
"You don't have to be a dick in shining armor though. You can just ask nicely." He crossed his arms over his chest.
"No one listens to a guard who asks nicely."
"Have you tried?" He didn't answer. I picked Justin up in my arms when he kept tugging on my shirt. The knight watched my actions. I think he thought the kid was mine. It didn't matter. At the orphanage, we are all family.
"Scott?!" The knight turned to a woman standing in the opening of the gates. I couldn't make out anything about her except her hair was a beautiful golden blonde.
"Let's go home, Justin." I set the little boy on the ground and held his hand as we walked away.
"I don't want to see you near the gates again." I glanced back at the handsome knight. He had the tough guy act back on. It was kind of sexy. I took Justin back to the orphanage and began my chores. I began cleaning and washing the dirty clothes of twelve other kids. But soon I will be eighteen. I'll be kicked out and sent to work. Even if our house mother loves us, she can't keep us.
