A woman was using dark magic to terrorize the land. She and her daughter captured people and turned them into slaves, and then Sophie started battling her. But her black art was too strong for Sophie. Eventually, the woman captured Sophie and wanted to turn her into puppet when Sophie woke up.
‘Oh, it’s just a nightmare.’ Sophie said as she stretched and greased her sleep-worn eyelids. Her eyes caught the glow of something around her fingers. It was her ring; the ring which the granny had given her.
Sophie wondered how the granny was now faring. It had been three years since she met the granny. She reminisced sneaking out of the house to visit the granny three or more times in the last two years, but failing to find her there.
The ring sparkled brightly and that was the first time Sophie saw it do so. Sophie always wore it to bed but it was still a secret she hid from her parents and everyone. She didn’t tell her mum who, at her age, was supposed to be her confidante because she feared that her mum would snatch it away from her, and although she was convinced that she wasn’t a greedy girl, she wanted the ring all to herself.
‘Good morning dad, Good morning mum.’ She said coming out with her school dress.
‘Good morning to you as well, my angel.’ Sophie’s father replied stirring his bowl of custard at the dining table.‘So are you ready to become captain?’ Melissa asked as she watched with some pride as her daughter titivated her slightly wet hair then gathered them into the grip of a beautiful ribbon.
‘I can’t wait mum! I have been thinking about it all night.’ Sophie replied excitedly as she pulled her chair backwards and sat for breakfast.
Sophie arrived quite early to school but was still beaten in the race for punctuality by Robin― It was like in everything she did Robin was always a step ahead. Robin gave her only and final speech to the class. Her address was pompous; full of big, elegant and unnecessary words and, placed the spotlight on nobody else than herself. It was just as Sophie had expected. No credits or appreciation was given to even Shirley, her best friend.
In the words of Robin from her egotistical speech, the person that the class needed was an independent and most capable leader.‘...and who can captain this great ship to glory other than Robin Hood? Well, you can choose to make Sophie your leader but if you do this great ship will become the Titanic; sinking to rock bottom with all its glory whereas Robin Hood would have kept it above water because with me as captain we don’t drown, we will even fly! Don’t make a choice that will make you sorry, vote Robin for guaranteed glory!!’ Robin concluded with her speech which brought applause from only a few hands of Shirley, Bobby and some other timid and gullible students.
Sophie’s speech on the other hand, called on the entire class to join her as a cohesive unit in order to achieve success. It didn’t fail to appreciate the worth of every student or the undeterred support of Constance and Edward, her friends. She assured the class that she wasn’t frightened or intimidated by Robin and urged them not to cave to her threats as well.
She said to them that when they lose faith and disagree amongst each other, the captain is bound to become weak. United we Float, Divided we Sink was the mantra she used to conclude her speech which brought not only an uproar of applause but also reverberated chants which declared ‘Sophie for Captain! Sophie is our Captain!!’
Robin and Shirley were already sore and planning on tampering with the results because they realised the class wasn’t afraid of big, tough Bobby’s threat anymore.
Meanwhile, the school mistress, accompanied by Ms. Prudence entered the class with a boy and girl whose identity was unknown to the class.
‘Class 4A, this is Frederick and Gwendolyn; the two bright and worthy students who, from now on, will study with you in this class. Do your best to give them some support.’ The headmistress announced to the curious faces of everyone.
