Shawn had always had a secret he kept from everyone, even his own parents. He's gay. He can't tell anyone at school either, he goes to a very religious school. Everyone that goes there talks about how gays are "the spawn of the devil" and how "they shouldn't be allowed to live." He can't talk to his parents about switching schools, because they always know when he's lying somehow. He's classified as the "nerd" type at school: he's not in any spots, he's really smart, he always gets his homework done before it's due, and he's the first one done tests. You could also say he is the biggest target for the "jock" types to bully.

Erik was what most people would call a "classic" jock: he was the quarterback of the football team, he never got his homework in on time, he always disrupted class, and always picked nerds. He really liked to pick on Shawn for some reason. Shawn started to skip classes from the bullying that occurred every day.

"Hey mom, I'm home," I shouted from the entryway of my house as I was taking my shoes off.

"Hey honey, I'm in here," My mom shouted from the kitchen. I walked to the room where my mother was and saw that she was already cooking dinner.

"Are we having guests over?" I questioned looking at her.

"Yes, the new neighbors they've lived here a while, but they just switched houses, and I thought it would be nice to welcome them to the neighborhood," she said, not looking up from the salad she was making, "they have a son around your age." My mind started to race "Oh crap"  I thought, "will I know him from school, who is he?" My mind was going around in circles when there was a knock at the door.

"Go get the door please," I slowly walked towards the entryway to greet the new neighbors. I opened the door only to be met face to face with Erik.

"Oh no," we said in unison. "Please come in," I said in the nicest possible way. I led Erik and his mom into the kitchen where my mother was still preparing dinner.

"Dinner won't be done for awhile, Shawn, why don't you and Erik hang out in your room for awhile." My heart dropped.

"O-okay." I stuttered trying not to show the fear in my voice or movements as I led Erik back to my room.

"I guess our moms are pretty good friends now, so we might as well get to know each other," Erik said sitting on the bed, "wo what does a nerd like you do for fun anyway?" I hesitated. "I don't really do much outside of school stuff." I said after a while.

"Figured as much," Erik scoffed, " do you have any friends at least?"

"No" I sighed.

"A girlfriend?"

My eyes widened and my hands stared to shake hopping Erik didn't notice I replied, "No." I tried to keep my voice from shaking as Erik smirked.

"A boyfriend then?"  Erik was really pushing my hand at this point. "W-what n-no!" I yelled, making a fake face of disgust. Erik started laughing.

"I was just joking dude." I relaxed a bit, I saw something in Erik's eyes, but as soon as it was there the sooner it disappeared. We soon started to talk about our interests like what moves we liked to watch.

"Yeah I really like the movie Handsome Devil," Erik started the his eyes widened like he said something he shouldn't have, "but d-don't watch it, it's not a movie a nerd like you should be watching ."
