Chapter 5

Rain was pouring calmly on the streets of Seoul. It was very quiet outside; the city was not as busy as it usually would be. The sound that could be heard clearly the most was that of the rain itself. It was much appreciated indeed, because due to the bustling sounds of the cars and all the commotion that would reside in the city, the rain would not be actually heard.

Droplets were trickling down the dorms' windows. Their sound resembled someone tapping on the glass with their nail but it was pleasant for the members to hear on their day off. Everyone was doing their own thing inside, including Jaehyun and Johnny. Johnny was composing a piece of music but he was wearing his AirPods, so Jaehyun could not hear a single thing that Johnny was playing. On the other hand, along with the sound of the rain droplets, Jaehyun was also accompanied by the scratching sound of his pencil amongst the paper of the booklet he was writing on.

He did not know, but Johnny was stealing glances at him with a smile planted on his face. Compared to before, Jaehyun was getting more inspired to write lyrics. He had recently participated in writing Dancing in the Rain and he was at that moment writing another song totally on his own. Johnny could not be prouder as he had finally convinced the younger male to write more lyrics; Jaehyun was naturally good at writing and it would have been a shame for him to throw this talent away.

Jaehyun was so focused on thinking about what to write that he did not even hear Johnny getting up from his seat and go behind him. Johnny was astonished as soon as he realised that in a matter of half an hour, Jaehyun had already come up with the first verse and the pre-chorus. While he had his face buried in his hands trying to think, Johnny put his hands on his shoulders, making the younger one jump.

"Baby JaeJaeee~" cooed Johnny. He loved babying Jaehyun despite the two being only two years apart.

"Hyung~ I'm 23 years old!" whined Jaehyun with a soft chuckle.

"I know you like it when I baby you though~"

Jaehyun pretended to sigh to tease Johnny but that actually made the older male laugh. Johnny patted Jaehyun on the head, messing his hair up a little bit. He lowered his back and rested his arms on Jaehyun's desk to read clearly the lyrics that were scribbled down on the booklet.

Stars pouring over you without you noticing

My lips get a little closer, I open my eyes for a second

"Jae..these are amazing!" exclaimed Johnny while his eyes were still diverted at the lyrics. He knew Jaehyun was a romantic person by nature but he never knew he was this poetic.

"Are they? I sometimes get unsure but I don't think they are that bad," said Jaehyun with a little smile, softly showing his dimples.

"Are you serious?! They're really really good! I'm so glad I convinced you to start writing lyrics again...our NCTzens are going to be so proud of you," said Johnny while he looked fondly at his younger best friend. A soft rosy tint appeared on Jaehyun's cheeks and flashed a big smile.

Of course, NCTzens were always on his mind when working and especially when composing lyrics. However, this song meant more to him than just a song which was meant to be put out there into the world. The lyrics he had just written down were poured out from his rawest feelings of pure love. He only had one person in mind and that is why the song was very meaningful to him. The song was a representation of the relationship with his soulmate and he truly wished he could sing this in front of her while clasping her small hands into his big ones.

Unknowingly, a smile appeared on his face again but Johnny let him know immediately.

"Jae? You're smiling as if you're thinking about something," said Johnny while studying Jaehyun's face.

"Oh..I'm only thinking about how NCTzens would react if this song were ever to be released," lied Jaehyun. He was not entirely lying because of course, his fans' approval was very important but he was not yet ready to tell Johnny the absolute truth. 

"They will love it; I'm sure of it," reassured Johnny.

Jaehyun stood up to hug his best friend and the latter did not hesitate to return the gesture. He would do anything to see the younger one always happy and with that shiny smile always imprinted on his face. The latter tended to be insecure of himself sometimes but Johnny always made sure to shower him with the compliments he deserved.

"So, do you have any idea of what you'll write next?" asked Johnny as both of them pulled away from the hug. 

"I do..but you know what? I want this song to be as perfect as it can be. I think I will discuss it with someone else too just in case."

"Jae, you are capable enough on your own."

"Thank you for saying that hyung, but you know how much of a perfectionist I am when it comes to work," replied Jaehyun with a soft chuckle.

"That, I know for sure," Johnny said with a laugh.

Jaehyun was the type of person to always examine his work. After filming, you would find him studying the video to make sure he did his job right; from dance moves, positions and singing. Especially singing; you would find him repeating some parts over and over again in order to perfect them. Indeed, composing lyrics was no exception. Actually, he felt the need to examine this more since he was not very experienced in this forte. 

He would appreciate some advice from a member who was experienced. As he thought of a possible candidate, he suddenly remembered the last song he listened to on Spotify and that was the key to whom he was going to ask for help.

"Okay, I know who I am going to ask for help," said Jaehyun with a satisfied smile. 

"Then go for it," Johnny encouraged him while putting a hand on his shoulder. Jaehyun gave him another smile as he looked at him while Johnny could not resist but poke his right dimple. Both of them ended up laughing at Johnny's move and Jaehyun could not help but slap his arm jokingly. After they were done laughing, Jaehyun then marched his way out of the door, ready to make this song the most impressive he could make it.
