December 2008: Manhattan, New York.

(Stella POV)

I wonder what New Year's Eve is like in Florida, where it's probably a hundred degrees right now. I wonder how much it's different from New Year's here in New York City. Here, anyone who's anyone crams in Times Square early in on the thirty-first and stands out in the cold, huddled together to preserve the heat, and counting down the seconds until the start of the new year. With my family, it's usually kind of a big tradition to go out to there for the event, see the artists perform and just take it all in.

However, that isn't the case this year.

Nope, this year my parents' thought it'd be a good idea to take us to Disney World for winter break and into 2009. Any other time of the year, I'd be completely in love with the thought of going to Disney, but at the cost of missing New Year's in NYC? - I'm not so in love with that. Even Christmas in Florida is bearable, but waiting for the ball to drop with family, friends and thousands of others from across the globe in non-tropical weather is something I look forward to every year.

"Stella are you packing?" my mom calls from the other side of my closed door, breaking my train of thought. I tense up, glancing sideways at the empty brown suitcase on the floor.

"Yes mom," I reply as I lay down on my bed, motionless, and gaze up at the ceiling.

"Are you sure? Because it sounds awful quiet in there," she says, her southern drawl coming out strongly.

Awfully quiet, I correct in my head. "Yeah, I think I'm almost halfway done with the clothes and shoes and stuff by now," I tell her.

"Well make sure you'll be ready soon; our flight is tomorrow!"

"Okay mom."

I hear her feet retreating down the hall, and let out a huff. She does have a point though, and I should probably start packing for this poorly-timed vacation. I put an old P!nk CD in the boombox and jam out while digging into the back of my closet for some more summery clothes for the trip.

"IIIIIII'm comin' up, so you better get this party started!" I sing along loudly as I arrange the items I've got so far to make sure everything will fit. Honestly, I must sound like the biggest dork right now, singing and dancing like this, but I couldn't make myself care enough to stop even if I tried. Music simply makes any situation better.

Orlando, Florida- here I come.
