Quinn woke up in the middle of the night to wailing. The source of the wailing came from the house across from Quinns', Jakob's parents. Quinn took a step outside and sighed. If his parents were crying there was a chance that Jakob would get taken away too, he really had seemed interesting. Quinn was just about to go back inside when she saw the bright colors. She looked to see Jakob standing outside. He waved her over, and Quinn decided to go over. Quinn wanted to know why he looked completely calm, even though it was clear that his parents were the source of all the wails.

"Hello!" Jakob said, as cheery as ever, "What are you doing p so late?" Rather than just answering his question she responded with a question of her own.

"I heard wailing and it woke me up. Didn't that come from where your parents are?" Jakob didn't seem to really react much to her question.

"Oh," he replied, "I suppose that is them. I left because they were getting way too loud. Besides once they both started crying you said that it made people get taken away anyway. There is no point on worrying about them if they're going to get taken away tomorrow anyway." It unnerved Quinn how calm he was while mentioning the Hoods coming to take his parents. Even Quinn remembered crying when the Hoods came to take her parents away.

The next morning the Hoods came and dragged Jakob's parents away. Quinn saw him watch, and on his face was... a blank expression. He showed no emotion as the Hoods came and dragged his parents away. Quinn couldn't help but wonder what was going on through his head at that very moment in time. Quinn decided to go back inside, she didn't feel like talking to Jakob.
