"Ughhh! This is so stupid!" Jungkook wailed while slamming his hands on the counter in frustration. "You said this was easy!" He said to Seokjin, who he was currently in a video call with.
"It is easy!" Seokjin defended. "You're just making everything harder than it needs to be." Jungkook sighed at this; rubbing his cheek lightly to dust some spare flour off himself.
"Fine, so what do I do now?" Jungkook consulted while turning to the tan sludge in front of him (which is supposed to be a cake mix) and sighing; he didn't realise baking a cake was going to be so difficult but he wanted Taehyung to have something delicious for his birthday. At first, he wanted Seokjin to bake it and send it over but Seokjin insisted Jungkook do it himself, claiming that Taehyung would appreciate it more if Jungkook was the one to bake a cake and Jungkook had to agree so now he was baking a cake with Seokjin coaching him over video-call.
"Now you put the cake mix into the tin and bake it,"
"Alright..." Jungkook muttered while scooping the batter into the round tin with a pastel pink spatula haphazardly. "What type of cake are you making me create anyway?" He said; tossing the cake onto the top shelf of the oven.
" A Victoria sponge cake," Seokjin responded. "Now onto the buttercream."
~🍰~
Jungkook sighed as placed the last strawberry on top of the cake delicately, "Do you think Taehyung will like it?" He mumbled nervously; rubbing a morsel of buttercream off his pudgy cheek and pouting slightly.
"He will Jungkook trust me," Seokjin asserted in a comforting tone.
"Alright, well I'm going to set it in the living room while I wrap Taehyungs presents so I'll talk to you later okay? Thanks for your help as well!"
"Fine, hope you have fun and make sure Taehyung gets my gift!"
Jungkook nodded before turning off the video call quickly. He then picked up the freshly decorated cake from the marble kitchen counter and placed it on the wooden coffee table in the living room (which Jungkook had spent the rest of the day decorating); Yeontan (taehyungs tiny fluffy dog) following close behind him, his paws making noise with every step he took.
Jungkook, once he placed the cake scurried upstairs into his and Taehyungs bedroom to get the presents he bought recently (presents that Taehyung hadn't noticed despite them being underneath his and Jungkooks shared bed).
Jungkook hadn't gotten Taehyung much: some cassettes with Taehyungs favourite songs on them (the covers of which Jungkook designed himself), a lavender coloured polaroid camera and an oversized knitted cream cardigan.
~🍰~
Jungkook was finally finished wrapping the presents after 40 minutes (he was quite slow at wrapping presents). He flicked a stray hair away from his face that was rather annoying him quite a lot. He then froze when he heard the familiar clanking of keys coming from downstairs; a sound that could only mean one thing-Taehyung was home.
Jungkook scrambled to pick up all the presents before rushing downstairs and throwing them on the couch, he froze once more when he looked over at the cake sat on top of the coffee table; whipping his head over to look at Yeontan accusatively as the cake Jungkook had spent ages making was now half destroyed.
The buttercream Jungkook had spent so long smoothing out on the cake was now all around Yeontans face and the strawberries were mostly gone. The cake itself was also targeted by Yeontan, roughly a quarter of it now devoured by Yeontan; Jungkook was honestly surprised such a tiny dog could eat so much.
"Jungkook I'm home!" Taehyung exclaimed joyfully, stopping abruptly to take in the scene in front of him.
"Happy birthday!" Jungkook blurted out before standing up to cover the cake; opening a party popper quickly. Taehyung chuckled at Jungkooks cute enthusiasm.
"Wow this looks great kookie, thank you for doing this," Taehyung muttered, a bright smile on his lips while going over to hug Jungkook tightly, a gesture that Jungkook returned happily. Taehyung peered behind Jungkook slightly.
"Is that the cake?" He inquired. Jungkooks face flushed a bright red hue as he pulled away from Taehyung; tucking a stray hair behind his ear.
"Y-yeah, I'm sorry it was-it was actually really nice looking but then..." Jungkook stammered before picking up yeontan whose face was still covered in icing and sticky with strawberry jam (which Jungkook had sandwiched in between the two sponges) "Something happened," he explained, pouting sadly. "Sorry...you must be so disappointed with it and-"
"Hey no it's okay, I love it actually," he assured in a soft tone, gently kissing Jungkooks forehead. He then picked up a fork from the coffee table and tasted the cake (well away from where yeontan had taste-tested the cake) and smiled heartily.
"It tastes amazing bub, I'm glad both my babies help contributed to making this fantastic cake," he declared jovially; this statement-making Jungkooks cheeks become rosy and made his face beam with pride.
"Alright, present time!" Jungkook exclaimed cheerfully while grabbing all three of his presents and launching them at Taehyung.
And so Taehyung opened all of the presents from Jungkook; awing and gawking at each one and making a big deal about 'how thoughtful his boyfriend was' and how 'no gift could ever top Jungkooks' and for Taehyung it was the best birthday ever becausw he had Jungkook and that was all he needed.
