First day at a new school. Fan-freaking-tastic. Gods, I wish my life wasn't a horror show. Whatever, all I have to do is get through this year without anyone finding out about my- nope. Not even gonna think about it. Hakuna Matata, people. Nothing I can do other than move on.
"Julia Murphy, please report to the main office. Julia Murphy." You have got to be fucking kidding me. Nobody in my first period class turned to look as I stood up to leave the room. Okay. They obviously couldn't know what my name was yet. I could, however, feel eyes on my ass as I left.
"Hey, I'm Julia. You called me down?" The front desk lady smiled at me.
"Hello, dear. Just wanted to give you your school laptop." I shrugged and took it. No big deal, my last school had them too. "Oh, and dear?" I turned back around to look at her from the doorway. "I was sorry to hear about your pare-"
"Thank you for your condolences." And then I went back to class.
¤¤¤Talk about a fucking cliche. Let me set the scene: New girl at school. Lunchtime. Hm, I've seen this movie before. Too many times to count. But no, you shank, I'm not going to eat in a bathroom stall. There is a perfectly good table in the back corner. Only one other person is sitting there, and she's just reading. Probably won't even want to talk to me. No reason for this to be embarrassing.
"Is that Harry Potter?"
Unless you do that, you idiot!
"No. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest"
"Oh. Cool."
I run a hand through my dyed blonde hair before digging into my garbage plate. Never thought I'd see one of these again after I left small town New York. There's a lot of things I know I'll never see again. My friends. My family. My home. No. Stop. You can't cry for seemingly no reason on your first day.¤¤¤
Finally! The end of my school day is here and I can go back to the McAvoy's house to relax. Except I still have to finish decorating my room. Shit. Opening a book on my phone, I settle into my seat at the back of the bus.
"You're sitting in my seat." I look up to see a boy around my age staring down at me.
"Sorry, I sat here first." He shrugs then sits down in the seat next to me, our shoulders touching. "Um, what are you doing?"
"Sitting in my seat." He plugged his earbuds into his ears and closed his eyes. End of discussion, I guess.
A few minutes of silence pass and the bus pulls out of the loop.
"Supernatural's a good show."
"What?" He smirks.
"Your shirt. 'Team Dean Since 1983'"
"Oh, right. Who's your favorite character from the show?" He thinks for a minute.
"Dean is pretty awesome. But I have to go with Ruby. She was hot." I scoff.
"Ruby was a manipulative bitch who convinced Sam to summon the literal devil." Silence followed. He turned towards me and I couldn't tell if he was staring at me or out the window. I cleared my throat. "So, uh, I didn't catch your name."
"I didn't throw it." Well fuck me gently with a chainsaw. "It's Dylan."
"Cool. I'm Julia."
When the bus stops at the McAvoy's, I practically had to shove Dylan out of the way. He looked at me quizically as I stepped into the driveway. The bus drove away.
