After the greetings followed by the exit of the train, everyone split apart. The boys said their goodbyes, even if it was for a short amount of time. Lily graced them all with a goodbye kiss, which sent James into a furious color of dark crimson on his cheeks. He was practically screaming when she walked away. Lily had always been touchy-feely, but this year it just felt different. But not in a bad way in a good way. James wouldn't ever complain about the attention she gave him, it made him quite happy actually. The thing about James was he had always loved Lily. Ever since he laid eyes on her in the first year. But having a crush on one Lily Evans, a girl who was close with his own friends had its downs. Sirius in favor loved to tease James about his fancying of the ginger girl. Constantly it was 'James there's Evans' or it was making kissing sounds and pointing to Lily and eyeing James. But then again, James expected little from Sirius. At first, it was quite annoying. At first, it made James get all grumbly, and ball up his fists until his knuckles turned white. But as it went on he got used to it, he actually grew to enjoy it. He liked it when people would poke fun at him. Which was a weird statement even by itself. But then again everything was weird in James's world. He found comfort in it, mainly because he could rely on the fact that it would happen, and it would continue to happen until he died or one Lily Evans finally agreed to go out with him. Dying seemed more probable. James never failed to ask at the girl, every year. More than once usually. And he always got the same answers. 'No James.' or the classic, 'I'm busy.' When Lily was really ticked off with his antics and nagging and hopes for her to date him, she would call him his full name. One time, Lily absolutely snapped at the Potter boy. He had asked her knowing she was properly stressed out, he knew either she was going to snap or ignore him but he wasn't prepared for how she reacted. James could still feel the fear that he felt when she yelled at him. He had never seen her like that, and to say he was terrified was an understatement. Sirius came rushing in followed by Remus, and Lily was left a sobbing mess shoving past them. They had never seen her like that. But in true Lily Evans fashion, she waltzed down the common room steps the next day as nothing had happened.

James had found himself lost in thought, that was until he felt a hand slap him on the shoulder. He was quickly brought back to his senses turning his head quickly to examine what was around him. Sirius was standing in front of him, a huge grin on his face.

"Welcome back to earth. How was the trip?" Sirius teased as he looked at his friend with the circular glasses.

"Houston we have a problem," Remus spoke after Sirius made the joke.

"Ha-Ha very funny," James mumbled rolling his eyes shaking his head slowly. He didn't quite care about the teasing, they just knocked him off his feet.

James didn't even notice that they had entered the school. He hadn't even noticed the chattering of the people around him. It was somehow never changing in this place, every year the same thing. As soon as you got into the school, it was crowded and always voices overlapping with voices. And somehow there was a comfort to it. Although James was no stranger to change, it didn't mean he enjoyed it. The quiet chatter of conversation filled his ears, but he really wasn't paying attention. Usually, he was listening in on other's conversations but not now. Now he didn't seem to have a slice of care in his body. His mind was on one thing and one thing only. The girl with ginger hair, and vibrant green eyes. The girl with soft lips, and a smile that could make anyone melt.

James had fancied Lily ever since the first year. He absolutely fell in love with her. She drowned his thoughts all of the time. Never once was Lily Evans not on his mind. He treasured every memory he had with her. If he could he would hold the memories in the palm of his hands until his dying days. Whether they were good or bad. Lily was different from the other girls, not many people were like Lily. And James was infatuated with the very thought of Lily's differences. Lily was perfection, she had an attitude on her but that made her all the more complex. She was funny and caring, she had a deep passion for anyone or anything she cared about. Lily was basically the polar opposite of James. And everyone does say opposites attract, and here it truly did happen.
