AUTHOR'S NOTE: Just so you are all aware, for the sake of the plot we're gonna pretend 1.16 never came out. Just to make this make sense lmao.
. . .
What a nice day it was to be made of blocks.
The sun was high, the grass was green, and bumblebees puttered through the air with a gentle buzz. Dream wandered aimlessly, taking in the sights of the lovely meadow he had spawned in. Normally he would immediately start mining wood and preparing for the night, but for a moment he let himself enjoy the view. Something told him he wouldn't be in danger here.
Wading through lilacs and red flowers, he made his way up a small hill, his bright green arms swinging at his side. As he crested the incline, he saw something in the distance--two blocks sticking up out of the meadow. Mildly interested, he made his way towards them.
What a wonderful surprise! As he came closer, he saw that the two blocks were a jukebox and a chest. He had absolutely no idea what they were doing there, but he didn't care, for they promised music, and that was just what he needed to complement the beautiful seed he found himself in.
Running up to the chest, he opened it and to his delight found a single disc. Excited by his luck, he turned and inserted it into the slot of the jukebox.
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
. . .
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
Dream blearily opened his eyes, squeezing them shut as the sharp glow of his phone pierced the darkness. Groaning, he buried his head into the pillow. He'd been having such a nice dream... what time was it? He felt as if he'd barely slept.
Looking reluctantly at his phone again, he realized it was not his alarm that was ringing. A goofy picture of Sapnap took up the screen, grinning at him cheerily. "The fuck?" he mumbled. Why was Sapnap calling him at this ungodly hour?
Still groggy, he fumbled for the accept button and held it to his ear. "Sapnap, what--"
"Dude you have to see this!" Sapnap yelled, making Dream wince and hold his phone away from him. "Get on twitter right now, you're not going to believe this--"
"Hold on Sap--what's going on?" His voice came out grating and heavy with sleep. Dream screwed his eyes shut again and rubbed his face. This better be fucking important.
"Someone beat your record Dream! Your speedrun record for 1.15! And not just that--"
"Someone what?" He was awake now. There was no way. No way in hell. Tearing his covers off him, he lurched over to his streaming setup, waving his mouse to wake up the PC.
"They beat everyone, they set a world record for any version too! It's fucking insane, you have to watch it!" Sapnap was practically screaming into the phone, but Dream wasn't listening. He quickly pulled up the minecraft speedrun leaderboard, holding his breath. No fucking way. He'd spent months trying to set that record, no way it was taken from him this fast. Absolutely no way--
There it was. Right at the top. First place--an american flag, and next to it the name blueblaze. Time: 17m49s.
Holy shit.
"I'll call you back." Dream ended the call with Sapnap, cutting short his yelling. He stared at the screen in shock.
Not only was the time the best for 1.15, it was the best ever. It was the world record--an impossibly fast time. Dream had fantasized about breaking twenty minutes one day, but this blew past that milestone with ease. He sat back in his chair, running his hands through his hair as he tried to process just what a big deal this was. The amount of sheer luck and crazy skill needed to do this... even he was stunned.
