Atlanta, GAI stared at the family portrait on Vanessa's desk as I felt her dark brown eyes gaze into the side of my face.
"Did you hear me August?" She tilted her head to the side.
"My fault. What did you say?" I fixed my gloves on my hands before I kneeled down to dump her trash.
"I said Happy birthday," She bit down on her bottom lip and smiled.
"Thank you, I appreciate it." I sat her trash can down getting ready to head out to the next office.
"August," Her soft voice called after me.
"Yes?"
"Any plans for your birthday?" She tucked her hair behind her ear.
"Nah, I never have any plans on my birthday."
"How about dinner? On me." She suggested.
"Nah, I'm good. Appreciate it though."
"August, you're such a hard worker you deserve it. Come on let's clock out. It's getting pretty late."
"I haven't even finished cleaning everyone's office."
"That's okay, I'll call Rosa in. She'll take care of it."
"Vanessa, I'm not even dressed for dinner." I quickly thought of another excuse.
"You can go home to change, I'll wait." She tapped her fresh set of nails on her desk.
That's one thing about Vanessa, She always have her nails done.
If they weren't painted red, then they were white.
I could tell she wasn't going to take no as an answer, so I gave in.
I clocked out and went home to shower and change into something simple yet nice.
I snapped a pic in the Uber before we pulled up to Applebee's.
I thanked the driver as I got out and headed inside the restaurant.
