As Luna walked down the stairs, she heard taps coming from her parents room. She came closer to the door and heard her parents talking. Their voices were muffled, so Luna couldn't really hear them. She guessed that they were talking about how they would hide her identity today.

They knew that she was a Dark Mermaid. At the age of 6, she found out how rare, her kind was. Her mother was a Water Mermaid, while her father was a Fire Mermaid. They loved eachother to the ends of the earth, although they were complete opposite.

Her parents have been hiding her identity for 93 years, as if anyone found out, she would surely be executed. But to her, it didn't make sense. When mermaids are born, they take one of their parents powers. Only 1% of mermaids don't get one of their parents power.

Like maybe, one parent is Physic, and the other is Earth, the kid might get fire. It's very rare but it's possible. No mermaid has seen a Light or Dark Mermaid for over 10,000 years. Light Mermaids have the power to create, while Dark Mermaids have the power to destroy.

That's why it's so hard for the two of them to get along. Back to Luna. Luna heard her parents whispering. Just as she started to understand what her parents were saying, Owen called her down.

"LUNAAA!! COME ON!! THE PARTY'S JUST GETTING STARTED!!" Owen called. Owen was Luna's best friend. She told him everything. The only thing she hasn't told him, was that she was a Dark Mermaid. She wouldn't know what he'd do.

As she was walking down, she kept thinking of possibilities. What her parents would say to everyone today. She wondered if her parents would even let her attend her birthday. Last year, her parents told everyone that she was sick. So she missed her 92nd Birthday. She was not pleased.

But this year, she finally got down before her parents. She met up with Owen at the bottom of the stairs. "Hey Owen!" Luna saided cheerfully. "Hey Luna! Everyone's super excited down there! I heard you got some good presents this year. Not to brag, but I may have gotten you the best gift of all." Owen bragged.

"Oh, yeah, you bought me the 'biggest, bestest gift' ever" Luna said. "Close! But not close enough." Owen teased. Luna was curious. Her and Owen went down the stairs. Luna was surprised by what she saw at the bottom of the stairs.
