The hall meeting was going so very well. It helped that there wasn’t much to discuss. The kids had been pretty well behaved lately, so it wasn’t like they even really needed the meeting. Just that they were having one was sort of enough. Koty had to make notes that said they were all communicating or whatever, so they got together every week or so in his room (door open, sadly, because there were kids) and hashed out plans. Events, decorations like Koty’s bff the witch animatron that lived in Damain’s room across campus, new pets. The meetings usually weren’t at all productive, but they didn’t need to be.
The meeting would be nicer if Zoe would stop being a shit, but that was probably too much to ask.
“Zoe,” Fina said, sweeter than a peach, “do you think you could, for one minute, stop shoving me off the chair?”
“Nope,” Zoe said, mid push. Fina landed on the floor and glared at Zoe, lunging up to drag the girl out, but Koty chose that moment to do his job.
“Get along,” he warned them, which. Easy for him to say, nobody tried shoving him off his bed. Sometimes Zoe would come into her room and knock her off her bed, and she was just supposed to take it? One of these days she was going to get Eli’s help and put Zoe into the fucking lake. Probably when Koty was sleeping, to give him some deniability. She was nice like that.
“So, anything else we need to discuss?” Emily was pretty good at keeping everyone on track, which made Fina like her more. Except that she didn’t want to be on track, she wanted to have her spot back.
“Nope,” Noah said, sitting cross legged on the floor like he had the whole time. “Just the usual.”
“Great," Koty said. "Don’t do anything stupid, and stop trying to break my chair. Get outta here.”
She hadn’t been trying to break his chair, she’d been trying to tip it over, but she supposed she could be charitable and see how it might have looked otherwise. Zoe hissed at her and Fina jabbed her in the gut before gunning it out of Koty’s room and down the hall, feeling relatively confident in her head start. Sure enough, she made it into her room and got the door locked seconds before Zoe slammed into the door. “You suck! I’m gonna--”
“You already ripped my pillow!” Fina yelled back. “Fuck off!”
“I’m telling Koty you told me to fuck off!”
Fina waited a moment, but heard Zoe stomp off and relaxed. Even if Zoe did tattle on her, she was pretty sure Koty would just tell Zoe to stop antagonizing Fina before she, you know, ended up in the lake. He was chill like that, and since he’d been on the receiving end of her irritation before, he knew better than most not to actually piss her off. Not that she intended to have a go at him like that again. Not publicly, anyway. The kids had freaked out, and it really wasn’t worth having to sit through get along lectures from all of them.
Okay, maybe it was a little worth it. Maybe. Jury was still out.
