Kalia and the mystery girl headed off down the trail embarking on their afternoon's adventure. They had been walking in content silence for a while when Mystery Girl suddenly burst out
"🎶DO YOU REMEMBER🎶"
"🎶21ST NIGHT SEPTEMBER?🎶" Kalia scream sang in return.
" Y'know cabin girl, I like your vibe." Mystery Girl said while looking up at the trees, small patches of sunlight dancing on her face. Kalia nodded in return wondering why her stomach fluttered momentarily. She soon forgot about it as they fell into casual conversation.
"Yeah y'know bees are actually REALLY interesting and I've been reading up on them- OMGGGG WAIT FOLLOW ME" Mystery Girl shouted suddenly grabbing Kalia's hand and pulling her into some bushes off of the path.
" Wait what the hell!" Kalia said nearly tripping over the branches and rocks on the forest floor as she was dragged along at lightning speed. "Slow downnnnnn!!!" She was just about huffing and puffing like the Big Bad Wolf when Mystery Girl finally stopped and looked back at her. Mystery Girl laughed and flashed her bright smile, "Sorry I got a bit carried away there, but look!" Kalia rolled her eyes and looked in front of her. She hadn't noticed before but she was standing in front of a small creek just deep enough to wade thigh-deep in. On the other side of the creek, the bank led into more trees which went uphill.
~Maybe we can explore that tomorrow~ thought Kalia surprising herself by thinking of meeting up with the girl tomorrow. "Well you dragged me here so let's go in!" said Kalia matter-of-factly, while putting her bag down and taking off her Dr. Martens. Mystery Girl nodded and took off her backpack and shoes too, wading in to where Kalia stood in the middle of the creek.
Kalia turned to Mystery Girl and slammed her fists into the water as hard as she could. A colossal splash of water drenched a screaming, laughing, cursing Mystery Girl. Kalia who was laughing soon stopped and started running but she was too late because Mystery Girl had already exacted her more than sufficient revenge by the time Kalia had taken even two steps. Soon they were both drenched head to toe and wet, laughing, messes.
They splashed around for another 5 minutes then stopped to look for frogs and other small creek creatures under all the rocks and stones on the creek's banks. By the time they had finished that about an hour had passed and they decided to sit on the bank and dry off for a bit before continuing.
They fell silent again just taking in the trees and birds and all of the green, alive, pretty forest around them. "I have trail mix, want some?" Mystery Girl offered out of the blue. Glad for the offer Kalia accepted right away. She was hungry but she wasn't about to ask the pretty stranger she'd just met for food. After the trail mix was finished and they had gathered all their stuff and been dried sufficiently they set back out on the rest of the walk.
They made it to the clearing in just under 45 minutes. The walk would have been shorter except they kept stopping to look at things, admire bugs and retie shoelaces all of which just made it more enjoyable.
"At last we are here!" exclaimed Kalia as they broke the tree line and entered the clearing. Mystery Girl laughed and pulled out a blanket from her backpack.
"If you hadn't stopped every 3 seconds we would have gotten here quicker cabin girl!" she said returned in a mock tone of annoyance. Kalia rolled her eyes.
"You didn't complain so shush! Also, I have a name, it's Kalia." she said smiling. The blanket was set out and Mystery Girl beckoned to come sit, Kalia gladly accepted the invitation and so the rest of the afternoon started.
