Sitting quietly in the corner seat of the TTC train car sits a young woman, likely in her late twenties. Everything about her seems perfectly ordinary, she is well dressed in business attire, carrying a leather commuter style briefcase, and is reading something on a small e-reader. There is one feature about her however, that is anything but ordinary. This young woman has bright blue hair.
Below is a fictional story of this young woman.
Alexa woke up early this morning. She had a hard time sleeping last night, but today nothing can phase her. Today she has an interview for her dream job; a journalist for the Toronto Star.
Ever since she was young, Alexa dreamed of being able to touch the lives of the people around her through the written word. As a young girl she would write countless stories and recite them to her mother over breakfast. She started a school newsletter when she entered highschool and studied journalism in university.
When Alexa graduated from university she had to move back in with her parents due to a shortage of jobs in her industry. For the last two years Alexa has had to work full time in a retail position for minimum wage so that she could start to pay off her student debt.
After applying everywhere again and again, she had almaot given up hope of achieving her dream. Then last week while checking out a customer at her minimum wage job, she started her usual small talk about the current issues in the news. She spoke about the issues with enthusiasm, and spoke about both sides of the story in a way that made her seem completely unbiased. The customer she was speaking to was actually one of the head journalists at the Toronto Star. The customer was very impressed by her knowledge and asked her if she had ever considered becoming a journalist. After explaining her situation, Alexa was given the customers business card, and was told to book an appointment to have an interview as an entry level journalist.
Today is the day of the interview, and Alexa is reading the newspaper on her e-reader, so she knows the most current stores that the Toronto Star has published. As she rides on the TTC to her interview there is only one thing that keeps running through her mind.
This is the first day to the rest of her life...
