A deal

Rex feels really, really stupid. He should have seen this coming a mile away.

Something was fishy about the package when the agency told him that it was "top priority", and yet they handed it to him, the guy that was holding on this job from a thin line.

Rex huffs as he hides himself further down the desk. It's not his fault that old man almost had a heart attack when he broke the window to his home! They told him to get the present fast and he did!

The guy had one foot in the grave already, anyway.

The sound of a door opening behind him makes Rex stop fidgeting, hands over his mouth. He breathes as slow as he can while the steps get closer, slow and steady.

"You won't be able to hide forever!" Rex hears the man he's hiding from scream. "You know, if you won't tell us anything, at least let us finish you quick! Otherwise we'll set fire to this place with you inside, you know?"

Rex keeps quiet, looking around. He knows he can't stay here, and as the steps get closer, he realizes with dismay that the only way out is the window in front of him, the light of the moon like an ironic beacon of hope.

It takes only a couple of seconds to make a choice, because Rex knows that between dealing with these morons and jumping from a three stories window, he at least has chances of staying alive jumping out.

"You know, I still have my patience, but it's running out quickly." Rex hears the man murmur. Rex breathes deeply, getting into a crouching position.

"There's only so much place where you can hide..." The thug continues in a menacing tone, as Rex puts a hand over his head, holding the underside of the table.

"...and with enough time," the man says, slowly, stopping right behind Rex, "I'll be able to find you."

The moment Rex feels the table shift in the slightest he summons air from his palm, the table sending itself and the guy behind it flying afterwards from the impact.

Rex doesn't stop as he starts to run, bracing himself until-

"You fucking brat!"

He can sense the fire almost reaching him, but in the last second Rex closes his eyes and jumps through the window, feeling the glass breaking and shattering. He feels like time stops for a second, with him floating in the middle of the air, until gravity rears his head and starts to make him fall down.

Rex hugs himself as best as he can, waiting for the inevitable impact to the ground and hoping that his legs don't break. But when it comes, Rex finds himself without any type of pain. He then feels two hands hold him carefully, and that makes him furrow his eyebrows.

Rex cracks one eye open in confusion, and he finds himself staring at a pair of red eyes, staring back.

"Um." Rex starts, but the other man speaks first, his voice very calm.

"Are you okay?"
