I arrived at the bus stop at about 3 am. My ride to Auburn, Alabama was 10 hours long. I had barely gotten any sleep last night, so I was hoping to get some sleep on the way there. Sitting beside me on the bench at the edge of the road was a really old man, with white hair above his ears, but none on his head.. Beside him was a burly guy, looking around my age. He had a faux hawk, a striped jacket, and basketball shorts on. He was really tall too, and had a well-defined jawline. I was surprised that it wasn't just me waiting here, because most people don't go from big towns like San Antonio, Texas to small towns like Auburn.
The bus finally appeared in the darkness of the night. We all got up, grabbed our suitcases and piled onto the bus. As I walked onto the bus, I was hoping for a seat by myself. I looked over heads of men, women, children, and even a dog. I scanned until i found two open seats. I was relieved to be able to be by myself. The old man who was sitting next to me sat next to a scrawny teenage girl who had her music turned up so loud that I could hear it from my seat in the back of the bus. The guy sitting next to him couldn't seem to find a seat. Then, I saw his eyes land on the seat next to me. I was saying over and over in my head, "Please don't sit here, I'd like to be alone." But he started towards me and sat down next to me. He put his suitcase under his seat, then quickly glanced at me. I glanced back, smiled gently and looked back out the window. The bus lurched forward and turned onto the road. We were off into the night.
"Hi." I heard a deep voice sweetly say in my ear. I turned and saw the guy looking at me.
"Hello." I said back and gave a friendly smile.
"I'm Ricky," he uttered. "I'm headed to Auburn, Alabama. How about you?"
"I'm Lexi," I mumbled. "I'm headed there, too."
He nodded, then looked back at the seat in front of him.
About 10 minutes went by before he started talking to me again.
"Hey, I think my phone is broken." he said.
"How? What's wrong?" I asked, puzzled.
"I think it's because your number isn't in it.." he smiled.
I couldn't help but to grin. "That was a good one," I giggled. "Since it was so good, I'll give you my number."
He smirked as he listened to me recite my number.
"Thank you." he grinned, as he looked back at his phone. I laughed and turned back to my window. I felt my phone vibrate in my back pocket, so I looked at him and sneered. I pulled out my phone and saved his number.
"No reply?" he chuckled.
"Why not just talk?" I blushed.
We talked until the sun came up, then he ended up crashing. He snored, too! It was in a funny, attractive way though.
I eventually fell asleep, too.
