" you have to cut Theo's hair, i'm not letting you cut mine."

" are you kidding me, look at his hair. it's perfect. I'm not messing this up." I reached up, and patted Theo's  head, ruffling his beautiful mess of dark brown locks.

Corra crossed her arms and shook her head, " No. no way in hell am I letting you."

Long story short, that's how she ended up sitting at my kitchen table, on one of my stool's, with a towel draped around her shoulders.

Gingerly, I placed the hair scissors on my first knuckles, contemplating which way I should cut her wetted hair. Theo tilted his head. I looked over at him, " Layers maybe?"

He shrugged, " sure."

" I'm serious, Mari. If you even mess up my hair a little bit."

I popped her on the head with the heel of my hand, " oh hush. It's not like i've never cut hair before." Then I gave Theo a cheesy smile; because I hadn't.

She bounched her leg, " yeah, whatever."

" and stop moving, that'll make it even harder." I scolded. she did.

Taking her hair in sections, I snipped off little bits at a time. An amused smile adorned my lips, " oh my god i'm actually cutting your hair."

She squealed, and Theo smiled just slightly. Corra's hair was extravagant. Before, she didn't have layer or any specific style. The poor girl didn't even have bangs. So I trimmed the bottom layer, just getting rid of the dead ends, and cut off more chunks of hair as I moved up on her head.

When I got to her forhead, I gently trimmed them in a sweepy slope, feathering the edges by stripping the scissor blades through the tips of the newly formed bangs. She frowned the whole way, at some points her chin even crinkled. It was all amusing to me; her hair didn't even look bad.

" what's the damage?" She asked, while I did final touch up.

Theo replied, " It's fine."

" Fine? what do I do with fine?"

" While we're on that topic, how's Chancey?" I asked. I hadn't seen her dog in awhile, normally she ran with him.

" Chancey, is visiting his sister in Oklahoma. Now if you'd like to tell me how my hair is fairing, that'd be great." She said, truly concerned for her head.

I laughed, " It looks fine, I promise. No need to go all girl on me."

She huffed, and slouched in her seat, nearly causing me to mess up, " don't move!"

" sorry," she mumbled.

I finished, then ran to my mom's bathroom for her blowdryer. Plugging it in, I said, " don't move. If you move, it'll probably shock you. don't ask why, because I don't know."

I would say we had some electrical name for the hair dryer, but it all honesty we didn't bother with naming our appliances in my household. I took her hair and started to blow dry it, watching as the water left each strand, leaving behind a light golden color. She touched her head, then winced, " ah, it's not."

" well, we did just blow dry it." I said, smiling kindly.

She glared at me. Removing the towel, she rushed over to the mirror and went wide eyed, " damn I am fine." She said, smiling like a model would on the runway.

Theo smiled, and I laughed.

It was true her new style was much nicer than her old one.
