"A-achoo!" You sneezed, shivering in the cold of Leos Memory. "G-geez.. i wish i had a coat.." sniffling, you continued to decode. As you finished the cipher, you spotted Aesop being ballooned. "Dont move, im coming!" You shouted, as you ran towards the chair. You were met with Galatea, staring back at you. "F/n, i wasnt planning on being friendly but you dont look too good. Are you sure you're not sick? I dont mind surrendering-" you stopped her, and said "Thank you for the concern- Achoo! But, rest assured, im perfectly- Achoo! Fine.." The sculptor sighed, and let you get away with the rescue. You ran with aesop, who stopped so you could heal him. "F/n, galatea is right. I think you need a break, you are in no way in shape enough to be participating in matches..." You waved away his concern, and finished healing him. "Lets go, theres only one cipher left."
The alarm sounded, and you started to decode the exit gate. You heard tracy call out that the other one was open, and you told her to escape. Decoding the last bit, the gates opened. "Im out of here!" You shouted, coughing.
As you returned to the manor, you saw none other then mary standing there, with a worried expression on her face. "F/n! Tracy told me you were sick, why are you doing matches!?" You shook your head. "Mary, im okay. I can still do matches..." she scanned your face, and put her palm on your forehead. "You're burning up! F/n, i cant let you do any more matches." You smiled at her concern, and nodded. "Fine..but the second im better im playing matches again."
Mary led you to your room, and carefully tucked you into your bed. "Ill take care of you for now.. since emily is quite busy with other survivors injuries." You rubbed your eyes, yawning. "Get some sleep, ill check on you later." She turned your light off, and when she was sure you were asleep, she planted a small kiss on your forehead.
Little did she know, you were still awake.
"Mary, you should get back to the hunters side now. I can take care of f/n." Mary shook her head at the doctor's offer. "No, ill take care of them. Now shoo, im going to go check on them."
Mary slowly opened your door, and you waved at her. "Hi mary!" A small smile could be seem on her face, and she sat down at the chair next to your bed. "How are you feeling?" "I feel a little better.." Mary nodded. "Are you hungry? I can get some soup, or maybe some tea if you like." You nodded, and mary set off to the kitchen.
Jack walked into the kitchen, seeing mary making.. soup?
"Pardon me, but why are you making soup? Dinner isnt until 5.."
Mary turned her head, and rolled her eyes. "F/n is sick, im making them the soup." Jack chuckled. "Alright then. I find it funny how close you are with this survivor, i recall you describing them all as "pests" before.." Mary scoffed. "Jack, maybe ive changed. We're friends, and i dont have too many friends. I just cherish the fact that they care about me, thats all."
But that wasnt all. Mary knew that she loved you, but she was unsure wether you would return the feeling.
"F/n? I have your soup..." opening your door, she set the bowl down on your nightstand.
Oh.. their asleep.
Gently shaking your shoulder, you rubbed your eyes. "Oh, thank you." Mary nodded, making a move towards the door. "Wait, do you mind staying? Im kinda lonely, it would be nice to talk to someone.." She sat back down, and looked out your window. "If its not too much trouble, can i hear about your home? Like where you're originally from?" Mary's face seemed to darken. "Oh- sorry, i didnt mean to-" she shook her head. "No its fine. I used to be queen of france. I treated my subjects rather.. awfully. I regret it, even on the guillotine i regretted it all. After all, the queen is the easiest piece to lose in a game of chess." She wistfully continued to look out your window, sighing. "You think im a horrible person dont you..?" You shook your head. "No mary, i dont. You dont have to talk about that anymore, instead, tell me about what your palace was like."
After many hours of talking, you saw mary smile. A genuine, happy smile.
"Im glad we could talk. I hope you feel better soon, goodnight f/n."
"Goodbye, mary."
You had to admit it. You were falling hard for the cold hearted queen, but she would never love you back.
Would she?
