Shimmer waited at the edge of the small pool while Blackstar went to find something to eat. If the RainWings were around, they didn't bother telling their Queen. Lazy, but powerful. Shimmer thought as she slid into the water. The air in the forest was muggy and warm, but the pond was pretty cold. As she waited, her mind flashed to her first memories of the Ice Kingdom. It was beautiful, but as she was beginning to imagine herself flying around the snowy slopes and hunting polar bears, the image of the two IceWings slid into her mind with their horrified faces. They were horrified by me. She sighed and climbed out onto a shelf of rock.

"Thinking of the north again?" She turned slightly to look at Blackstar.

"I can't help it. But, if Queen Nightmare gives us her permission, I will return." Her crush chuckled as he climbed up beside her.

"Bringing with you a blizzard of your wrath." He teased, splitting his catch with her. Shimmer smiled, baring her teeth.

"Most definitely. Those stupid IceWings just threw an ani..." Blackstar grabbed her snout and glared at her.

"They threw out the wrong dragon, yes." He growled as she pulled her snout free from his talons. "You are also smaller than most dragons your age, especially IceWings."

"How do you know how big IceWing adolescents are?" Shimmer interupted.

"I went to investigate before we made any plans of conquest. The Queen has known of our plans before we spoke of them to anyone else besides each other. She sent me on that mission." Shimmer nodded, her tail lashing slightly with excitement. "Her Majesty told me if we are to continue with this plan, there is one restraint on you."

"Restraint? For what?" Shimmer asked surprised.

"You will be Queen of the IceWings, but also a subject of Queen Nightmare, who will have the ultimate authority." Shimmer felt her spines flare slightly.

"Does she think I'm incapable? I've run the most successful missions for her since I was five." Blackstar smoothed her spines with his large paws. Shimmer still felt very indignant. I've been a loyal NighWing since I was little! How can she think that I would biff this?

"She doesn't think you'll biff it. You are a NightWing and quite a good one to, but she's worried about the influence of the other IceWings." Blackstar replied aloud to her thoughts. She rolled her eyes. I've told you not to do that. Especially out loud. I didn't grant you that gift so you could spy on me. Her friend chuckled. "No ones here, and the RainWings are to lazy to care or figure out."

"So. . . what influence is she worried about?"

"Our wise Queen knows that the IceWings will realize their mistake quite quickly when you kill Queen Tundra. She doesn't want them trying to persuade you to turn and attack us. We NightWings are not in a good place right now, and if the IceWings knew our conditions, it wouldn't be to hard to overwhelm us." She nodded. Is my anger not enough to satisfy her? I want to build a connection between the two tribes, and get my revenge on the IceWings. "You can have revenge, but we will not connect the tribes." He told her sternly. Shimmer nodded and looked down at her coal black talons.

"So where do we start?" She asked standing and flexing her talons.

"You tell me. This was your idea, you must lead the operation." He replied, eating her half, which she hadn't touched.

"But. . .I'm not a leader! I just carry out the assassinations under your guidance!" She exclaimed, narrowing her eyes. Blackstar shrugged licking the blood off his talons.

"I can help you. This could also be a test from the Queen to test your abilities." Shimmer nodded. If she wanted to do this, she must do it all the way.

"Right then, I want to start by finding out who I am supposed to be related to. I'll be able to make an example out of them."
